I've already offered my congratulations, so I'll merely inquire: is there some large cyclopean herbivore I'm unfamiliar with?

Can't tell if you are joking or not, but...herbivores are adapted to be on the lookout for things that eat them, so have eyes placed to get a large field of view (ie on the side of their head). Predators need depth perception, and so have eyes that face the same way. There are many angles from which you can only see one eye of a horse. It's harder to find an angle from which you only see one eye of a dog.

Btw, Morgan--one of the happiest couples I know started dating with a not-so-smooth sailing trip. The main sail ripped, they ran out of gas (or maybe the engine broke?), they read the tide charts wrong and ended up being towed back to the UW by a drunk Cougar (rival of the UW's Husky) supporter.

I wasn't joking - I was merely obtuse. I of course know the facts about the eye locations of predators vs. prey; it just never dawned on me that that meant you often only see one eye of an herbivore at a time. I feel foolish.

I don't think you were being obtuse, but it is in character for you to joke about cyclopean herbivores even if you understood that she was talking about two-eyed herbivores seen from the side.
