I agree on Underworld. I was delighted when the final fight ended so quickly: I think that Craig's incredibly predictable knee-jerk response blinded him to the real problems with the movie, and his desire for bigger fight scenes (which would just have made it longer and more predictable) was the result. But it was just meh. Contrary to certain peoples' reviews, for a hidden war it impacted on the "world above" constantly and irreperably.
But Jarhead is a different matter. For a "war" movie with virtually no fighting, I thought it wonderful: I got a clear picture of more characters, their motivations, their reactions than would have been possible if some pointless battle scenes had been retro-fitted in. Basically, I felt it was a Waiting For Godot for our days, and was rare (though not unique) in addressing that whole "war breaks out and nobody turns up" thing.
Dammit, I think I'll post a review on my own site...
