I guess you had a vet check her out? Either way, I'd say give your vet a call. If chinchillas are like cats it could be a respiratory thing that you won't want to let go too long. Otherwise maybe it's allergies?

Good luck!

Depending on how long this has been occurring, she could be malloccluding (roots growing into eye sockets). Only an xray will tell.

Also how often do you dust her? What kind of dust?

As the previous commenters have said, teeth or an infection are the first things that spring to mind.

If you're not already doing so, it's worth keeping an eye on her weight.
If she's losing weight, that's a sure sign of a poorly chinnie.

17 is a ripe old age, so you're clearly doing something right!
I wish the same for my little scamps.

Good luck :o)

galtine1 said it best: Vet for x-rays to make sure her teeth are okay. You might ask about getting her eyes stained (it doesn't hurt) to see if there's damage from her dust.

And like impishredhead said, watch her weight. You can get a decent digital scale in the kitchen section of pretty much any store for >$20 to do that.

when my baby had eye junk the vet said it was conjunctivitis... i'd say get him thoroughly checked out by a vet... that way if there are any underlying problems, you can catch them early!

hope your baby gets better soon!
