Just a question...

Is it okay to feed my chin Kaytee's Fiesta Gourmet Chin food? Or mix it in with pellets?  (it actually has pellets in it, so...)
It says:

Kaytee Fiesta Gourmet food helps small pets thrive! Packed with a fortified mix of vegetables, high fiber hay, healthful whole grains, and fruit, Fiesta contains essential nutrients for healthy small animals. ( Read more... )

You can mix pellets in, that would be fine. Just make sure your chin has timothy hay and that should be fine.

You seem upset over my response. I've forgotten what brand you are concerned about at this point and I don't know what ingredients you feel are junk. I mean if there are a lot of raisins or something like peanuts in it, you will want to pull them out and treat the chinchilla with them sparingly, but dry veggies don't strike me as junk food. Certainly not alfalfa and timothy hay.

You can feed your chin whatever food you want to; I'm just offering my opinion to try to help. You can always mix and regulate how much of the less healthy food gets mixed in. A hungry chinchilla will eat the less appealing food too.

Me personally...I still with the idea that the less color it has, the healthier it is for my chinny. I stick with Mazuri and Timothy Hay.

I wouldn't feed that unless my chin were starving, and even then I'd pick out all the unnecessary crap (seeds, fruit, etc.) They have the digestive system of a horse in the body of a rodent; they don't need all that sugar and corn junk.

I wouldn't feed mine with that, it's all junk. It would be like giving a child Lucky Charms 3 times a day. I would suggest Mazuri, they sell it at stores where Kaytee is sold, so it isn't too hard to get a hold of and it's all food no junk. Also, since hay should be the big protion of thier diet, make sure they are getting all the hay they can handle. :)

Thanks for the suggestion!! They have Oxbow at my local feedstore...do you think that this is as good as Mazuri? (more than likely i'll just order the latter direct; from what everyone is telling me and what i've read, it's the best)
