i'm so sick of my hair. after straightening it every day with a metal brush for about 10 years and dyeing it for about 8, it's completely thin and brittle. i think i'm going to stop dyeing it and let my natural color (brown. how boring.) grow out. i'm not blonde and i don't have jet black hair. too bad. i'd rather have brown hair and actually have ( Read more... )

Deep conditioning will help hair in need.
Umm, maybe a good styling product would make it all one shape.

Boring brown?!?!? Nooooo.. I have brown hair :) I don't dye my hair anymore. Last time I did was November/Decemeber 2006. I won't do it again.

I am trying to do the side swipe bangs myself. They are still a little too short to do it, but I am going to train them :) They grew out a little since I got them cut at the beginning of the month, so now they don't look terrible when they are actual straight across bangs.. I still hate them, hahahhaa...

your hair is beautiful! i'm definitely going to stop dyeing. i think Heather has a good point, that i should dye it one more time, my natural color. i was trying to look at my roots yesterday and i think it should be doable. either way i'm definitely going to get it done this weekend. hopefully the hairstylist will know what to do.

Biolage is a good idea. i have a Sally Beauty Supply up the street so they probably have it there. If not they have it at the salon i go to. my bangs were too short for the side-swept bangs too but they've grown out a lot. i just saw pictures of myself that someone else took on myspace and i was like "omg, that's what i look like?! ugh". ironically i think i'm having a good hair day today so it came at the right time, haha.

PS - My girl gave me Biolage condition. I recommened it. My hair is dry on the ends. I only use a tiny bit of this and my hair feels sooo soft, and shiney :)

I think this is the one I have - Newly Re-formulated Strengthening Conditioner

But definitely try it.

When you straighten your hair, do you use any thermal protectant product on it? (like matrix sleek look?) If not, get some - it'll help protect your hair. (Chi makes a good one too...though it smells kinda manly, I bought it for my bf and he likes it)

Deep condition your hair at least once a week - meaning get a good deep conditioner/protein treatment and keep it in your hair for a minimum of 5 mins before you rinse. It'll help repair your hair.

If you don't want horrible roots - dye your hair one last time close to your natural hair color and let it grow. After a few months it will be healthier and you'll be able to trim all the dead ends.

i actually don't have a thermal protectant. i really love Pantene but i'm thinking about switching back to Thermasilk since the shampoo and conditioner protects from heat. they probably have a product i can use too but i'll look for the Matrix stuff.

and yes, i must buy a deep conditioner. i also wash my hair every day. i have naturally oily skin and hair so when i go a day without washing it it looks greasy.

i'm definitely going to dye my hair my natural color one last time, like you said. i don't need tri-colored hair, haha. my natural highlights (blonde and red) are already growing back in.

thanks so much for the good ideas! i owe you a drink!

Thermasilk does have a protecting spray I'm sure, and since I know that'll be cheaper and you're gonna get the shampoo anyways, get that. They're selling a lot of high end salon stuff in Target and grocery stores to, so just look :) If you want to do a higher end product, see if you have an Ulta around you - they always have some kind of sale on salon products (that's where I get mine) and if you don't, I can pick up stuff for you since there's one near me.

A deep conditioner will do wonders and it's something you don't have to do every day.

I know when I gave my hair a break (was like a few month break) after I was blonde, I dyed it close to my natural color and then just let it go and the roots meshed with the old and it looked normal and my hair felt a lot healthier too. I'm actually about to do that again - have the dye at my house and am going to do it tonight. My hair needs some repair :/

you don't owe me anything! but do let me know next time you go out and I'll go :) I am trying not to be *such* a hermit :P

you could always let your natural come in and do highlights and stuff, i think that'd look cool--especially if you wanted your hair to look different or interesting (you could do chunky highlights w/ dark streaks too--that looks cool) and it wouldn't damage your hair.

as for the wavy/curly thing...when my hair is shorter, there's waves in it too. i think it's an italian thing. i call it "wavy wop hair." however, when my hair is longer, it's so heavy it pulls the wave out.

so maybe if you let your hair grow in natural and untouched, it might be heavy enough to pull your curls out too. never know til you try, its been 10 years :)

i've thought about highlights for a while. possibly, but i think i'm just going to go w/ the plain brown for now until i get antsy again.
