Wapsi Square and the week getting better

First of all, I'm going to be all websnarky and write a blog about a good webcomic.
Why?... Because it's Wapsi Square.

Comic by Paul Taylor - click to visit!

I've been following Wapsi Square for a good while now. I first came across it while reading through the archives of a webcomic called Alice! The first thing that caught my attention was the art. It's such an original style, and so nice to look at. Then, reading through, I was hooked because of the characters and the distinct humor of the comic. The comic is set in modern times, but many jokes and situations are tied with the historical era of the Aztecs. In fact, one of the main characters is Tepoztecal, the 2ft-high Aztec god of Alcohol, who for the most part only allows himself to be seen by the main character, Monica. Other characters (and by far my favorites) are great golems of Aztec history with such immense power that they once destroyed an entire civilization. They were summoned into this time accidentally by Tepoz, who summoned them in the forms of Bud, Brandi, and Jin: three perpetually drunk (and racially inclusive!) college girls.

The first year or two of Wapsi Square consisted of mostly joke-a-day comics. Its storylines were based on the individual characters and the gags they could create, and it was high quality stuff. Each and every comic had a punchline. But it changed, as comics do. But in years since the style of the storytelling changed, and it started developing characters to a whole new, and often dark, level. Nearly every story arch centers around a different character's deep past, and the demon that has haunted them through their life. Even the cryptically cheerful barista at the local coffee shop gets a deep dark past of DOOM!

Admittedly I teeter sometimes on wether or not I like this comic as much in it's current state. After all, comics that change dramatically are generally looked upon with suspicion and aversion (take Megatokyo, for example). But then Paul Taylor gives us such creativity as this comic above, and it reminds me just how much I adore Wapsi Square. Let me say it one more time: I adore this comic! It has changed from giddy gag goodness, to deep thoughtful dark goodness. He's just introduced a friggin' LIBRARIAN sphinx called Phix into Monica's plethera of ancient, fantastical creaters she associates herself with. Not only that, but the sphinx has declared a riddle! How he designed the sphinx, as well, is fabulous- its the perfect rendition of a sphinx in his style.

Needless to say, Chip is entralled with the current storyline and can hardly wait to see what happens.

I'm busy today! lets hope all goes to plan.
Last night Alex asked me over to watch a movie with him, which is awesome because that hasn't happened in months, and its a sign that we have the OLD Alex back! Hurrah! We watched Kiss of the Dragon, which I think is my most favorite Jet Li movie so far. Still have yet to see a bond movie.

Around 10:30 I got a call from Ta asking if I wanted to come with a group of people to go to Gameworks. Gameworks... I mean, come on, who would want to go to OF COURSE I FRIGGIN WANT TO GO TO GAMEWORKS!! But of course I have lost my wallet and had to borrow my brother's gameworks card (/sigh). So I went to the biggest arcade in seattle with Ta, Jaffer, Kent, Keith, Daniel, John, and John's new girl Erica. It was a blast. I spent a long while in the old school room with the Atari games, and was able to beat Taimur at a fighting game called Virtual Fighter (which is notable really because I had accidentally chosen a character named Sarah... rofl).

Afterwards we ate at Denny's, and guess who was there? GANDALF!! Nick Cozetto and Crystal Mylam where there, innocently getting a bite to eat at 2 in the morning as I walked in and intruded on their fun. Oh, it was so great to see them.

I have to run, and get ready for work. GAH!
Busy day busy day... wish me luck!

P.S. I'm sorry Jaegermeister, for the canceled shoot :
