Yes...you can officially call me "coach". This past weekend, I completed the RRCA Running Coach Certification Course.

I got this e-mail today:

Hi Chip ( Read more... )

Congratulations, Coach!! That's exciting news :) I'd love to hear more about the course if you ever get time to write about it. I've had a significant setback this past week, but I'm still determined to get back to long-distance running by the end of the year. I've been craving it, dreaming about it. Working on making it a reality :)

I don't know if I've asked you before, but are you guys planning on doing any half or full marathons this year? If you are, which ones??

The course was really great. The people that taught it had incredibly impressive backgrounds. Mike has run over 40 ultramarathons. He's also a certified personal trainer. Janet is an exercise physiologist and specializes in gait analysis and biomechanics. Together, they run a website: http://www.runningstrong.com. Janet lives in Atlanta and Mike lives in DC. They travel all over the country teaching courses for the RRCA.

We're doing the Rock 'n' Roll Dallas Half on March 14th. Just registered for it last night. I'll probably do another half in Dallas before I do the full in San Antonio again. I want to do at least 2 Rock 'n' Roll races because you get a special medal the more you do in one year. :)

Sounds like a great plan :) Seems like everyone I know vaguely interested in running is taking up the Rock 'n' Roll series this year. My brother and his girlfriend are heading down to the one in Nashville in April. My plan is to do some shorter local races and then do the Virginia Beach half in September if I'm ready, then the Las Vegas race in December. My ultimate goal is the Las Vegas race, but I figure if I am ready to give it a go by the fall, it'd be fun to do the VA Beach one too.

I would love to do the one in Denver, but I think three half's in one season is a bit too lofty of a goal for my first year. We'll see though! A friend of mine (from Las Vegas) who hardly did any working out prior to getting together with his girlfriend (now fiancee) put in some serious work with her help and motivation, and they completed five RnR half's together last year :)

Wow!! That's awesome. Yeah...RNR is getting big. Some people don't like it because it's a big franchise. I don't really care about that very much. I run local races too. The franchise thing isn't a big deal to me.

If you want a challenge, in a few weeks I need to go from months of almost no cardio to a decent PFT before June 30th. :D

Can you go to a track and run two miles for me?? Just do it as fast as you can. Do y'all do your PFTs on a track or on the road?

On a road... I'll get back to you in about 10 weeks though... :D Got to have the munchkin first and then wait for the doc to see if when I can run again.

Good plan. :)

Guess what?? One of my classes this semester is Women and Children. I'm excited about it. I think it will be my favorite class this semester. :)
