The last time I posted on LJ was February 19th. That's sad. A lot has happened since then. Let's review.

In March, I ran the Rock 'n' Roll Dallas Half Marathon. cmmunchkin and I both got PR times at that race. The race conditions were really great, and it's my best run to date. I finished with a time of 1:27:38. It was also the first time that I got to wear ( Read more... )

My mind boggles at how fast you are! You met Frank Shorter in person! Very cool. And an Alaskan cruise....I'm glad you guys had a good time. I peeked at all the food photos first of course :) That dust-up with the nursing school sounds frustrating but I'm glad things got better.

Nahhhhh...I'm not that fast. It's all relative. I was amazing at that same race by a friend of mine who finish in an hour and seventeen minutes. In-freakin'-credibly fast!!

Glad you liked the food pictures. It really was tasty. :)

Random question directed at you since you know ASL: Do you know why some signers also mouth some of the words too? The question came up over here: http://evelynne.livejournal.com/310496.html

I would say that the answer to this is for a couple of reasons.

1.) If the signer is Deaf and there are hearing people around who don't know a lick of ASL, it would at least give them a clue as to what's going on. Some Deaf people what "hearies" to feel included while other think they should make an effort to learn some ASL.

2.) If the signer is a fluent signer but is hearing, they probably just do it because spoken English is their first language.

I read some of the comments that people made on there about the movie, which I have seen as part of my ASL IV class, and I don't agree with them about the signers being annoying. Some are ASL purists, but I'm not. Maybe I would sing a different tune if I were Deaf, but who knows. I think any effort to communicate between both Deaf and hearing, as long as both are trying, is a valiant one.
