Very cool. :) I haven't played a Yamaha guitar myself but if it sounds good and feels right when you play it, that's the important thing!
You might consider buying a copy of Guitar for Dummies. That's how spazzkat taught himself to play. Me, I did it by participating in our jam sessions and watching what the other guitarists were doing... but also, grabbing the chords for Great Big Sea songs and trying to play along as I listened. :) Also, digging into old Elvis songbooks, and playing along with those too!
I found that the physical mechanics of strumming were really all I needed to get down, and of course the finger arrangements for chords. I suspect it would have taken me longer to get the hang of it if I hadn't already had a musical background.

btw: I have a music background: Piano, trumpet, french horn actually 'classically' taught. Recorder- I am amazed at my 'talent' on that one.
I read music, but now to figure out how to play it w/ a Guitar.
I will take into consideration your advice. I have a 'beginners learning book' along with a DVD. It helped to watch a little Utube video last night to see how some things are done.
One of these days we will have to get together and play. :)
