The problem with LiveJournal:
We all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other.
So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious or maybe not, but you have no idea about. Ask away.
Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you!

I think it's every time my family and I go to our favorite restaurant -- Mi Tierra. My parents had their wedding rehearsal dinner there way back when, and since we've moved back to Texas, it's definitely the place to go for special occasions or really just to be a family. Nothing bad ever happens at Mi Tierra. The food is always good, and I always win the bet for how long it will take a tourist to request that the mariachis play "La Bamba." You can't feel more connected to San Antonio than when you go to Mi Tierra (suck it, Alamo). :)

Now that you are approaching the end of your undergrad years, what are your hopes for the future?

I hope that I can function as an adult. The prospect of having to manage my own finances and things like that is a pretty daunting one, but I guess if just about everyone else can do it, then I can, too. :)

Some of us better than others. I can offer you some words of advice for someone who has gone through her fair share of financial issues.

If you don't have a credit card, don't get one, unless it is one for emergencies only and has a low limit.

Make a budget and try to stick to it.

Live within your means. Or a little below it. When I worked at EMC I made 60K a year. Then I got laid off and went back to school and had NO income and was still living like I was making 60K. I ended up having to file for bankruptcy, which obviously causes issues long term. However I didn't learn from that and got myself into MORE debt, and then ended up in credit counseling. I should be out of it in about a year.

I live paycheck to paycheck, no savings, no credit cards for emergencies. It is a scary way to live if something were to happen....

So make wise decisions with your money and you will be fine. Ask for help if you need it. I wish I had.

I've started to be a bit more proactive about it. I'm taking a Personal and Family Finance class this semester.

I'm used to using my bank card as a credit card, so that's a good way to keep me in line.

But... yes, I plan on asking for A LOT of help.

I feel like I might have asked you a question like this before (maybe it was someone else, but it could have been you), but...

What do you consider your most notable success and failure. Why? What have you learned from both experiences?

This is a hard question. :) I think my most notable success was going to England. I decided when I came to UT that I wanted to do it and actually followed through on it without having anything disastrous happen along the way. That doesn't happen very often. I learned that I really could achieve my goals along the timeline that I wanted to achieve them, and in England I learned to be fairly self-sufficient and social.

A most notable failure was probably not getting into UT right away. It's a really long story about the bureaucracies that allowed that to happen, but the end result was that I had to attend one of the satellite schools for a year (UT-San Antonio). From that I really learned how to find the silver lining in situations. Something of a family emergency came up at the beginning of spring semester that school year, and it was really important for my family that I was home, so maybe UTSA was meant to be for me? I've had to learn to accept it as much.
