I thought I'd do a brief review of the largest toy I've gotten since I brought the Defiant back from Long Island last June. The review is short but there are quite a few pics, so be warned.
GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra - The Pit
Big Pit is Big.
No, I mean BIG. The missile launcher on the top, by the way, can fire one missile or both depending on how deeply you press the button. Nice touch. The handle is for opening The Pit up, and NOT for carrying it.
Not Defiant or USS Flagg BIG, but still pretty damn BIG. Only the outside sets of wheels turn; the inner 2 sets are fixed. This is a VERY good idea (as anyone who has ever tried to rest a Defiant on its wheels, or has a Rolling Thunder that has snapped in half in the middle, will angrily tell you. Extra support on a vehicle this size is an incredibly good idea)
The cockpit (hur) has separate joysticks (hur) and even has stickers for display screens.
Big Pit just got a LOT BIGGER.
And is surprisingly well detailed. You can see the buttons for the electronic sounds; the whole section lifts out so batteries can be put in.
Cardboard standups to represent details and crates. A neat idea, especially considering how the whole thing folds up.
Breakaway wall sections to re-enact the scene in the movie where The Pit gets attacked.
The right hand side of The Pit swings down and acts as a sort of dorm, with 2 beds and a locker. There's even a sticker for a sink. The only problem with this section is that it is VERY loose; it swings down extremely easily and falls off just as easily.
Welcome to "Hasbro's World Of Insanely Detailed Homages". Current population - Bazooka's shirt. Future residents include a calendar with the original Scarlett's artwork on it, a framed picture of a Snowcat, and a poster of a Skystriker.
Weapons storage in the floor. The Pit comes with a nanomite missile launcher, 4 nanomite missiles, a pistol, 2 rifles and a briefcase that opens and can hold the nanomite missiles. Oddly enough though, the launcher can't actually hold the missiles.
The Pit has a lift, of sorts; you just move it up and down. The toy as a whole has a LOT of footpegs.
As with the standups, The Pit also comes with 4 cardboard crates. These fit together perfectly and just add yet another detail.
A small storage compartment near the front of The Pit. There is even a sticker for the inside of this...!
Yes, that is a table tennis table. Complete with bats. There is even a coffee mug for General Hawk.
General Hawk. Mine has fairly okay paint apps on the eyes, but he is horribly bandy legged. I'll have to dunk the legs in hot water and try to straighten them.
By the way, there are no paint apps on The Pit - it's all done using stickers. SIX SHEETS OF STICKERS. Seriously. There must have been easily 150+ stickers for this monster. I should have taken pics of them before I stated applying them - something which so far has taken me roughly FOUR HOURS (admittedly I do trim almost every sticker I apply, but nonetheless) and I'm still nowhere near finished.
The Pit is very big, and extremely well detailed. I've seen a lot of old school Joe collectors slagging it off, but to be honest it's FAR more playable than something like a Rolling Thunder, or even a ROCC. There is just... SO damn much to it. In conclusion, it's is a beautiful toy. If you're looking for a decent mobile command centre for your Joes and, if you can pick it up relatively cheap, do so. Seriously; fucking awesome toy is fucking awesome.
