Okay, so, I need to update~~
Day 1: On planes and in airports from 11 am to 3 am (Central time). Crazy. Poppy's stored up frequent flier miles actually allowed us to fly first class for the last two legs, which I have to admit was awesome beyond all imagining. Like, holy crap. Speaking of, brownie bites on top of caramel ice cream on top of rasberry sorbet is delicious. Unfortunately, Linda's ears don't like pressure changes, and that with a developing head cold/sinus infection is still causing her trouble. Fingers crossed that she gets better quickly.
Day 2: Out of the plane and into the car (seriously, we spend half our time in the car). We drove out to Seward to Portage Lake to see Portage glacier. It was really gorgeous, and it's crazy to see the glaciers and the waterfalls of melting ice. The captain of the boat has a daughter in Carencro, so we had some stuff in common. We also got to see him break surface ice. Nifty. Then we drove the rest of the way to Seward (Portage Lake was about halfway?) and went to the Sea Life Center. Basically a nice little aquarium centered on Bering Sea ecosystem stuff. Saw an otter, many fish, PUFFINS!, and other cute things. Seward reminded me a lot of Interlaken, Switzerland (in the sense that it's a really tiny, old-fashioned town, with the new thrown in). There were a sewing store and a knitting store (with old women knitting in it!) two stores down from each other. Came back home to Anchorage and had spaghetti and watched the first Indiana Jones.
Day 3: Today, we went to Flathead mountain. We didn't go all the way up, just went a little ways in, sat, and picnicked. Lovely. Then we went to see Star Wars (so good!). The mall with the theatre had a comic shop that sold EVERYTHING. Including swords. (And they had fully posable 12-inch Phoenix action figures. Tempted to buy one for Max. Then we drove out the the inner end of Turnagain Arm (the gulf near Aunt Anne's) and watched the Bore Tide come in (basically, a really huge tide that comes in really fast). Sat out on the rocks watching the water for about 2 hours. Nice. (And the weather was comfortable!). Ate burgers at the house for dinner and watched Overboard (old classic with Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn).
Oh, and the sun doesn't set here. Not really. Twilight looks like dawn, and the sun stays up ridiculously late. Like, 11 pm here looks like 7 am. WTF.
Tomorrow we leave for 3 days in Homer, which will include kayaking. But we need to get up early for the drive. Linda's still not feeling great, sadly. Hopefully better soon. I forgot to bring extra batteries for the camera, and I haven't bought more yet, but Aunt Anne's been taking lots of pictures. In the meantime, the few I've gotten so far are going to be uploaded to facebook.
Love you all, and I'll be posting again in a few days!
