Winter Sucks

Jan 03, 2010 04:40

I have found something that I think may actually be worse than snow, and I hate snow with a bleeding passion and always have (seriously, I decided it was disgusting when I was two years old and forced my parents to carry me through it because I refused to touch it for the next couple years - if only I could still get away with that...). I hate it ( Read more... )

People were like that a bit in Philly too, with the snow. They're way worse here, but on the other hand, snow is way more common in Philly that it is here. I may think it's *insane* that people here throw chains on their tires for a few inches of snow, when chains on tires is illegal in places like MA (and thus translates in my mind to, "you wimps" but at the same time, if the snow will be gone in the day and you aren't traveling any of the hills or mountains or passes, do you really need to put the chains on? Seriously? And take them off in the same day? Really ( ... )

Snow chains? Really??? Wow, I have never seen anyone use snow chains and in much worse weather than you're describing. Yeah, wimps.

Baltimore tends to cancel schools at the slightest sign of snow, I've seen schools close for fucking rain. Holy shit, living in MA there could be two feet of snow on the ground with more coming down and I'd probably still have to go to school (seriously, Wayland is well known for just about never closing school, I'd usually have to go when every other town around us shut down :-().

The general lack of winter is one of Eugene's major selling points, since I can't go someplace like the desert since I'm sensitive to dry air, too. Gods, I hope that we can get there before next winter. :-)

Oh, I do not envy you having to be outside today. The wind is bad enough staying inside. Get done quickly. :-(

Well, with a little luck, maybe by next winter you'll be here. It's been around 50 degrees during the day here, I've been walking around in just a sweater for warmth. It almost never snows (when it does, people do get ridiculous, though not with salt, but that's maybe once a year if that). I've had to readjust my sense of seasonal cues, since we have flocks of robins here all winter - no longer a sign of spring!

A large part of that I think comes from recognizing that winter is my down time and treating it as such

Smart. I'm trying to do that with summer.

I don't mind so much people being retarded with snow when they don't live in an area where it usually snows (although snow chains? seriously???); its only aggravating when people should know better and just don't.

Oh man, fifty degrees sounds soo good right now. Light jacket weather for me. Really crossing my fingers that I'm there before another winter passes.
