Oh hurray, we found a decent price on queen sized pillow top mattresses (discontinued models). And by Wednesday we will have a new bed to sleep in

The best wedding present Nick and I got wasn't the various kitchen goods or linens, it was the $400 my brother gave us to go towards a real bed. We spent 900 total and it is seriously the best thing ever.
I'm almost always comfortable on my bed. It is a needed item, and don't let any one tell you otherwise. Good sleep is the basis of health.
And nobody knows how important sleep is than someone with chronic sleep issues. :-P
Four hundred toward a mattress is an awesome present, I hadn't really realized just how expensive it can be to buy something even marginally more comfortable than a bed of nails. We got lucky in that we found a guy selling discontinued models, we're getting ours for about $350 when it would normally go for more than twice that. That wasn't even the best one there, fourth or fifth best. :-)
A mattress is something one should not fuck around with. I have back issues, and when we're ready for a new bed (financially and locationally), I am not cutting corners. I don't intend to be ridiculous, but I'm not forsaking my back. Congrats on the new bed, I can't even imagine what sleeping must be like...
FYI--it doesn't matter if you have a KING--the cat will take up most of it. We have 2...
Oh don't I know it, even when it was just me and Discord in the bed I'd somehow wake up every morning pushed into the corner while she had the rest of the bed to herself. Its that same size bed now with the three of us, and my cat is kind of an asshole when it comes to Renee. Not as bad as she was at first (and there are some pretty hilarious Discord vs. Renee stories), but Renee still ends up with the short end of the stick when Discord decides she needs more room.
I don't know how I went as long as I have like this (and hopefully I won't pay for it later *crosses fingers*) but it was getting to the end of what I can take. Man, I'm glad we found this sale when we did.
True (well, within some reason, $5,000 seems a little much for a mattress; I could add shoes, but the ones I've seen that cost the most are most definitely *not* good shoes that you'll get any real wear out of).
And thanks, from what shopping around we had done, it does seem like it was a great deal.
It's funny -- sleep in one of *the* foundations on which everything about being mortal hinges on, and it still baffles me that people undervalue it so much. I know you don't, but the idea that a mattress isn't or shouldn't be exciting (again, not you, but the prevailing attitude, not here, but with people in general)is bizarre beyond understanding.
We did the futon thing until we moved into this place. Much as I don't love that all the furniture (except two bookshelves) isn't ours, and much as I hate the monster of the bed we have, the fact that it's a real bed with a real mattress has bad such a difference. Especially for Beth. I don't love the mattress -- in fact, I sleep at least part of the night most nights on the floor, but my back is such that it needs that anyway, and I've mostly slept on floors for the majority of my life, starting young -- but it's worlds better than feeling metal bars through thin futon mattresses. So, yay!!
I know, right? When I mention chronic sleep disturbance, and so many people act like that ranks somewhere in between a bump on the head and getting a lash in your eye. Just shrug it off, get up and go about your day, you'll sleep better the next night! Uh yeah, like if that really worked it would still be a chronic problem. Sleep is something that people don't get how much it effects until they lose it. (although not always, sometimes the people who had insomnia once for like a week can be so self righteous about just getting over it)
That metal futon bed was evil. It got a little better when a friend gave us her old futon mattress and some thin foam padding to add to it, but that only made it slightly less evil. I'd rather sleep on the floor.
I love soft, cushy beds that I can just sink into. That is perfect comfort as far as I am concerned. Just one more night, I am so looking forward to this. (not looking forward to dragging it up here, but only got to do that once :-))
