Apartment hunting sucks ass

We had two places all lined up when last I posted, stupid me for thinking things would get easy from there.

The most annoying part is, what's holding us up from sealing the deal and actively moving forward with getting the fuck out of this cesspit, is so gods damned stupid I kind of want to hit my head against the wall every time I think about it.

Not that it helps get anything done faster, but I'll just peep in to remind you that I haven't seen *anywhere* here that is even remotely close to as bad as what Philly was like. erl_queen's old place was close to campus and was thus "noisey", and while it *was* a bit on the noisey side, it wasn't rap, it wasn't screaming, and it was English, so the novelty of all that made it tolerable when we stayed with her. Which wasn't long. Possibly different if we'd lived there, but I still think it would have been so much better.

No, it really wasn't that bad, not compared to a larger city with real ghetto areas. And the artsy areas... well the people might be annoying if you talk to them, but then, I don't talk to most people, and at least they're interesting looking and creative rather than drooling morons. Every place is going to have something you don't like (even my current place does, and generally it's lovely), but none should be too much of a pain, and it's not like you'll be locked into living there forever, so I wouldn't worry too much. And I do sympathize with how frustrating it is to find an apartment, but actually objectively speaking I think it's going pretty well, considering you're doing it long distance. I had to do it without knowing anyone here, and it was much more stressful (in that I only had a day to find a place when I visited). I'm sure everything will work out soon!

Every place is going to have something you don't likeOh, very true, especially when you're as misanthropic as I am. :-) The question then is, can I get away from what I don't like, and that isn't always possible. I never spoke to anyone in the ghetto either, race back home as quickly as I could and shut myself up inside (that includes all windows shut) and it didn't fucking matter, the bullshit came through anyway there was no getting away from it. Never spoke to anyone in Wayland either, but their snotty judgmentalism was all but plastered on the sidewalk, and people can find ways of letting you know just how much they disapprove of you without having to open their mouths ( ... )

assuming you can get in touch with the owner of the first apartment, couldn't he simply use the internet in a cafe and create a temporary account? If so, then you could have your landlord e-mail you with a time that he'll be available and let the other man know so that he can send your landlord an e-mail with the questions. I've never heard of such things when applying to a place. Actually, I didn't know there was much to it other than going to it, them doing a simple background check and then being let in.
