As a recruiter I have to speak up to say we are not the enemy. People need to keep in mind what recriters actually do. By that I mean who actually pays the recriters bills. Recruiters aren't in the business of finding jobs for people, that is a misconception. They are onthe business of finding employees for their clients. The final hiring decision is always up to the company. What recritersare is an additional resource for job seekers. Keep as manny options open as possible.
Having said that, I am very exited for your opportunity. Sometimes being from out of state is actually an advantage when the company believes they have tapped the local market to death.
I can understand that, and if the recruiters themselves made that very clear it would be fine. But the two we ran into in Baltimore did tell her that they would be trying to help her out and will actively look around for something for her, just give me a call in a week or two and we'll see where we're at. Then they never answer the phone or ever return messages. If finding her something is not in your job description that's okay, but commenting that you will when you can't is what I'm annoyed with here.
We have gotten the sense that tech support experience is more of a novelty around here (unlike Baltimore where it seemed everyone did tech support at some point). I'm hopeful that will work out in her favor somehow. Really hoping anyway. :-)

Good luck to both of you.
