I boil eggs only infrequently. For some reason, though, whenever I do, in my head I hear Wallace telling Gromit, "I'll have a three-minute egg," and his British accent gives him great imaginary-voice authority, so I always assume that three minutes is the appropriate length of time to boil an egg

Ten minutes if you already have the eggs in the water when you first put the pot on the heat, twelve if you drop the eggs in once the water is boiling :)
