Some Truth

Dec 19, 2010 14:14

A few years ago, I wrote an entry for LJ Idol writing about giving up my Mary Kay directorship. I really did feel like a failure, and my friends were all so wonderfully supportive that it really made me feel better. I had not yet announced my intention to go into real estate training. It's hard to believe it's been three years since then ( Read more... )

Thanks for this post..every so often a friend of Carrie's will try to get her interested in some sort of Amway-ish type sales opportunity and we've always felt that people that are great at signing up others is where the actual money is and not selling the products themselves.

That sounds way too much like a pyramid scheme to us

But your debt is something that needs taken care of

Sorry you got burned by MK. Like mizmoose, I read your posts and hoped that you were doing well. You're smart, organized, and driven. If a person like you can make money at MK, then their system is structurally flawed.

Out of curiosity, what happens to the inventory you've got? Can you sell it at cost to someone who's still in MK? I'm guessing not because then they don't get credit for purchasing it directly. (And, from what you wrote, that seems critical to that person's success.)

Are the prohibitions on selling the inventory while no longer affiliated with MK? Or is eBay your bets option?

Here's hoping the new year brings better times.

what's schedule C+

But when I became a director, I essentially turned my best customers into my competition

I remember, and I remember thinking about that very concept. Thing is, at the time it probably seemed like doing you a favour... (I was even tempted, but I couldn't think of anything I'd do even with the initial order)

Schedule C is the tax form for reporting income and losses from a home-based business.

Thanks for saying no. :) Never thought I'd say that ;)

None of this surprises me. I could never do anything like this and companies like this are SO common in NZ, where people will swear that it's fine, it's great, it's ethical, you can make money, it's just recommending good products to your friends only you get paid! The people who actually make money from this kind of stuff are those at the very, very top. Everyone else is expendable.

Still, you live and learn and I have no doubt that you will be moving on to bigger and better things.
