I am so with you in that mood! saribeth April 22 2008, 15:12:46 UTC

1) OH YES!

2) Wherever. Turkey run was nice from what I remember, very pretty. An there was horseback riding. I love me some ponies.

3) Meh. Gas prices suck but whatchagonnado?

4) Illini out by starved rock was the place we'd always go. It's tiny and any activities and stuff yo'd have to drive to. But Starved rock's general area might be worth looking into. Maybe somewhere on the river where you can swim?

5) We have tentative trip to washington planned for this summer. Probably June or July. No dates set. But you know how busy it gets around here in July/august with all the summer babies' birthdays.

6 & 7) Not June 21-22nd because I'll be having Piper's first birthday party that weekend. What about a may camping trip?

Hey, you know what? I've got Memorial Day weekend reserved because that Sunday ends this weight-loss competition I've been running with my family, and we're all supposed to go to Starved Rock for a picnic and one mile hike! So, perhaps we could combine that with a weekend camping trip?

I don't know if folks do a lot of stuff Memorial Day weekend or not...we usually don't have anything specific planned! I'd be up for camping!

It's a busy camping weekend, usually requiring reservations, which might not be a bad idea! Let's think on that. Is the hike at the starved rock state park?

haha, I don't know! I've never been there. Do you think I need to reserve a picnic area? Or are there picnic areas you can just go to when you're there, and eat and stuff?

The thing to consider is that most of my relatives IN this challenge (me included) haven't lost as much weight as we were trying to at this point. And my one aunt has diabetes and a lot of foot problems, so I'm not sure how much hiking she'll be able to do. And my other aunt's BF is, um, VERY heavy. And can't walk very far (like, down his street a little) before his back really starts to hurt. It's supposed to be a one-mile hike to celebrate our weight loss and fitness achievements to date. But I'm not sure everyone's going to make it that far. Or on the hike at all, honestly.

One of my coworkers has been there many times and recommended a trail to me, but I don't remember if it's at Starved Rock or some park across the street (I think she said). I'll have to ask her again. LaSalle Canyon, it's called. Ring any bells?

Thanks for the input! And also the info on local places. I'm not familiar with ANY of the campgrounds in IL; my folks never camped, so I did all my camping with friends or with Girl Scouts. And when you're young, you just don't always remember all the places you went. (Or, more frustratingly, you remember GOING to 'this really cool place' but have no way of knowing what it was called or where it was!)

I've never been to Garden of the Gods; what's it like? What makes a far-away place 'worth the time and expense', in your book? (That helps me for future planning purposes!)

I'm so not into camping. White Pines is my idea of roughing it. :P Sowwy.

no sweat, dearie! We'll miss you but I understand. My family was never into camping when I was growing up...they don't have a clue where I get my love for it, lol.

1) I LOVE camping, but would have to do it after June, because thats when the little Bean is scheduled to make their grand entrance. I'm due the 14th, so logically i can't make ANY plans all month yet..
2) While I love camping in Indiana, I don't have a car yet, but I should before Baby is born.. or soon after.. But the gas prices..
3) I wouldn't mind staying closer to home, but what fun is a 'camping trip' if youre really close to home?
4) Illinois is so full of places.. theres also Wisconsin too..
5) July- till it gets too cold
6) the ones that come after a week..
7) not yet
