Dad rescued two kittens! Cute as a button. Our baked bean chihuahua had fun herding them around the kitchen.

On Monday, we took a trip down to the range for Memorial Day and spent time shooting with my brother-in-law and his stepfather, G. G was envious of all the like new used stuff Dad has picked up like spotting scope, the rifle scope we have on the new rifle, and, well, the new rifle. He tried it out for himself and was impressed. Went to shooting match. Returned sun-baked, bug-bitten, and covered in dirt. It was a special experience. It would've helped if I had been able to practice any type of shooting that was in the match. Dad picked up to new rifle last Friday and we took it for a spin on Sunday. I shot a group with it and got all ten rounds inside the 8 ring! I feel pretty good about it since it was my first time shooting prone. Dad had gotten some 68-grain .223 ammo to try and the old rifle shoots very well with those, but the new one doesn't like them at all ( Read more... ) -
New gun
Dad's put money down on a gun for me! It's almost the same as the AR we already gave, but this one was custom built before these parts were available. The barrel was cut custom from a blank that would probably cost as much as their asking price. Yesterday, me and Dad met his friend at the range for some shooting. In the picture, I was spotting for my Dad's friend firing his .308 something or other. After taking forever to sight in the new scope, I finally got a chance to shoot. Our ancient kitty Bob has taken to occupying our 45 lb Lab mix's bed. Poor softy doesn't have the nerve to kick Bob out and always wants us to do it for him. Bob gives love bites and the Lab can't stand it. We'll have had Bob 15 years this year and he was an indeterminate age when we got him; he was definitely past kittenhood, but wasn't showing ( Read more... ) -
Day at the range
Got up at 7:00am yesterday and went with Dad out to the gun range. He shot in a 200 yd "historical" competition with an M1 Garand. Out of... twelve or so entrants, 9 used a Garand; one used a bolt gun I didn't get a look at, one used a .30-40 Krag-Jorgensen carbine, and one used a .45-70 Trapdoor Springfield.
