Fitz still doesn't know what to do with this place. He's solving this problem with extensive reading, trying to figure out what is happening, but it's not getting him anywhere. He's pacing back and forth in front of a table full of papers and books in the library, swearing quietly to himself and looking fiercer than normal. He's frustrated ( Read more... )

Phedre is also much of a bookworm, but having given up on a return to a place where she is dead, she is learning - about human politics, about magic, about theology and philosophy, geography and history.

She's presently fumbling with a book of Economy - John Ford - and it drives her insane. She looks up, and seeing Fitz's visible agitation, stands from her seat and offers the visibly needed distraction.

"Good afternoon, Tom."

He looks up and seems pleased to see her. "My lady Phedre," with a bow. "And you as well, as ever."

"As ever." She smiles, gives him a curtsy worthy of a prince, and adds, "My Lord Tom."

It's the first time they see each other since the kiddification crackplot - and she has vague memories, but they're not on the surface of her mind, just now. Just the pleasure of seeing him, for now.

Sugar is writing at a nearby table, and she'll look up from her novel - it's not as embarassing as the first, almost finished one, and she doesn't mind writing it in a public place.

"Something the matter, sir?"

She gives him a patient smile, quill in hand, which she deposits dutifully into the ink pot.

"Then taking a small walk perhaps would ease your mind. Would it be very indiscreet to ask what you are researching?"
