So our new plan is to win the HGTV Dream Home 2006, which is in Lake Lure, NC. It's a 2 million dollar home on 2 acres, complete with an SUV and $250,000 cash. I was so STOKED at this at first that I started just dreaming on what life in a commune-type setting (I swear to God we're NOT a cult! lol) would be like. If people would want to live ( Read more... )

Thanks! *grins* I've realized now that, not only had I forgotten how much it hurt to get it done, I'd forgotten how long it's sore for afterwards. It's starting to become annoying!

I was thinking about the tax thing on the dream house, too. Not sure if they have a provision in there for that. Since that big debacle with Oprah and the car thing last year, a lot of giveaways have included taxes, but this one I don't know about... Although, if you think about it, we *could* sell the house after we win, then take the money from that (minus taxes for the win) and start our own compound right here in Atlanta! (seriously, we're not a cult...)

And ooh, I think your idea of some small business courses sounds good! Not only for your own business plans (which I'm sure won't fail), but if we ever decide to start a guild business (ie, Flunkies), we'll need someone with the business know-how to get us started! :D

I read the rules for the Dream Home and unless I'm totally missing something, they do NOT pay the taxes on it - it's totally up to the winner.

And you totally have a point about selling the dream home, but I tell ya - that one would be hard to let go :)

Hmmm, well if we're going to be responsible for the taxes, then I think our only choice would be to sell... It would be hard to let go of that house, but imagine how much money we could get out of it!!! *grins*

and then we could build an even BETTER compound someplace of our choosing!

I'm sure we could find a way around the tax thing. No sweat!

A legal way, even.

Sounds like you guys had a good time, sorry I missed out. But... it was not meant to be.
