So ya'll know I am a member of a club that sends me scrapbooking kits each month. It's an online message board, online store, kit club and general great place to spend my money. Well, the lady who owns, due to her declining health, has had to get a full time job with insurance to take care of herself, and she's decided to sell it ( Read more... )

you might want to buy a book about owning a small business - and check into any applicable tax issues in Oregon - they might be very different than where ever she is located!

I think you would be great at this. You are an awesome planner and are anal (I mean that in a good way) enough to keep things in line and not go crazy.
I know nothing about owning a buisness unless its a resturant so can't help you much there, sorry.

Perhaps there's a Buying a Business for Dummies book out there.
I haven't bought a business myself, but your list feels like a good one.
Also, I imagine there are websites dedicated to this.
Is it ScrapMuse that you're buying?

Yes - it's ScrapMuse...I got an email back from the owner asking for my phone number and so I gave that to her last night but we went out and I didn't hear from her. Hopefully today or tomorrow she'll be able to call.

And I'm sure there are tons of good books out there on buying/running a business. Also maybe check with the Small Business Administration - I'm sure they have a website - that could help you with info also. Good luck!!!

Thanks - I bought a couple things this weekend and have been reading like mad. I also have been checking around for a good CPA. I need someone to explain to me tax stuff, in particular how to file sales taxes on stuff mostly shipped out of state. That's the part of business that I hate managing!

I have also called Bank of America to see what their loan options are - although I am not sure at this point if I need a loan. Haven't managed to connect with the owner yet.
