SuJu Fic Challenge Theme: 040. Skin
Summary: The reason why Shindong and Kyuhyun don't show off a little skin is because...
After the performance, Kyuhyun quickly runs into the back to change clothes. He always gets there first so he could be in and out of his clothes without anyone seeing. However, this time…he isn’t so lucky.
“Why do you always rush to change clothes?” He hears Shindong ask, and he freezes in his tracks.
“Nothing,” He lies, “I just want to go home and sleep.”
“Yeah right. Like Sungmin says, you’d stay up ‘till five on a date with your laptop. Tell me the truth, Kyuhyun,” Shindong replies, leaning against the door. He would’ve locked the door; however, they were in the bathroom and the stall locks from the inside. Kyuhyun already locked it; therefore, if the maknae wanted to get out, he’d have Shindong to walk straight into.
“I…” Kyuhyun trails off, playing with his performance shirt as he thinks of another lie. However, he doesn’t get the chance to when Shindong starts speaking again.
“You know, if I had a body like you - skinny and fit - I wouldn’t mind showing it off. Instead, I have to hide as much as you want to because I’m not as in-shape as the other members,” Shindong says, crossing his arms.
“Hyung-”
“A lot of people say I’m not fit to be an idol because of how much I weigh. But I don’t care,” Shindong continues, “I can be an idol, a gagman, anything I want so long as I work hard, right? What about you? You have the voice and the body to be an idol. A lot of girls would probably die on the spot if you so much as glanced at them. The only problem you had were your eyes, but then you had them fixed. So what’s the problem now?”
“The scars, hyung, the scars,” Kyuhyun finally admits, and Shindong smirks, looking up at the ceiling.
“I guessed that already,” Kyuhyun hears, and he’s gaping.
“Then why’d you ask?”
“I wanted to hear you say it,” Shindong replies, “But even if you’re hiding your body for your scars-”
“Hyung, they’re scars. They’re unattractive to look at. Do you really think the fans will like it?” Kyuhyun retorts solemnly and he’s surprised to hear Shindong burst out in laughter.
“Kyuhyun, I don’t have abs, I have flabs,” Shindong emphasizes the words slightly as he looks over his shoulder, “They’re unattractive to look at. Do you really think the fans will like it?”
Kyuhyun realizes his hyung is mocking him and frowns.
“Hyung, I’m being serious,” Kyuhyun sighs as he takes his shoes off to replace with sneakers, “Nobody wants to see scars.”
“And nobody wants to see flabs. Kyuhyun, do you think the fans really care?”
“What do you mean?”
“So what if a whole bunch of scars cover your skin? Fans won’t care because at least you’re alive,” Shindong whispers the last part as he stares at the ceiling. He hears Kyuhyun take a deep breath before pushing himself off the stall door so Kyuhyun could come out.
“And you got off with only a few scratches and bruises,” Kyuhyun replies, “So why are you worried about your appearance because you’re overweight?”
“I used to be,” Shindong replies, “Look, if I show skin - you have to, too.”
Kyuhyun stares at Shindong before dropping his gaze to the floor, “Fine…but I don’t guarantee it’ll be anytime soon.”
Shindong just smiles and drapes an arm over his dongsaeng’s shoulder as he laughs, “It’s okay Kyuhyun-ah. As long as you promise you will one day. Just think of it as a way of moving on, y’know?”
Kyuhyun nods, and the two head out into the changing room where the rest of the members are waiting.
The next day, Shindong performs Love Song by Rain on Strong Heart with Leeteuk and Eunhyuk. The one with the infamous “shirtless” body roll. And Kyuhyun smiles, thinking that’s exactly how Shindong hyung would do it. Now when the time comes for him, he’d have to think of the way he’d do it.
