Summary: Donghae REALLY likes Hyukjae. But he's too shy to confess.
Fifteen year old Donghae is staring in awe at the boy before him, with old-fashioned hair popping moves like a dance machine. There was no way Donghae would've been able to dance like that, and he feels slight jealousy growing towards the strange boy across the room from him. However, when the boy stops and smiles - gums and all - at Donghae, the young boy feels his heart stop. The smile and happiness glittering in those eyes has Donghae feeling weak at the knees and he just drops to the floor, unable to remember what his name is and how he could've possibly fallen in love at first sight.
Years pass and as they stand on their stage - having just had their debut performance of Twins (Knock Out), Donghae watches Hyukjae - or Eunhyuk - dance off the stage out of happiness and leftover adrenaline. Donghae swears that every time the monkey boy dances or smiles or goofs around, he has Donghae ready to fall over from how strongly his feelings are. Of course, the then-blond knew how...wrong this is, and how strange people would think it is. Therefore, he keeps his mouth shut and lets the pain of unrequited love slowly drown him.
After winning an award for their most-memorable song, Marry U, Donghae watches as Hyukjae dances a celebratory dance once they reach their dorm. Donghae smiles, having learned how to control the wave of emotions that passes when Hyukjae dances so perfectly before him. However, the next sentence has Donghae turning pale.
"I'm gonna call my girlfriend and tell her we won the award!" Lee Hyukjae announces to what Donghae feels is for the whole world to hear. The older male goes bouncing off to the bathroom where the door is shut and locked for privacy. Donghae feels his whole world crashing down and stumbles to his own room - away from the members' hoots and howls of when "Hyukkie is gonna tell them".
Donghae spends his evening clutching the pillow to his chest and praying to his father why the hell this hurt so much more then when he left him...
A year passes and Super Junior is getting ready for their comeback. During that year, Donghae had been floating in and out of depression. However, now, as Donghae learns of the news that Hyukjae had broken up with his girlfriend, a smile springs forth to his face. He runs off to find Hyukjae as soon as possible, only to find the latter in a bitter mood that had Donghae in tears by the end of the day.
The next day, however, Donghae decides to hell with it and that he can't possibly lose anything more. He finds Hyukjae straight away and corners the other.
"Lee Hyukjae!" Donghae cries, and Hyukjae stares at Donghae with a questioning look on his face. Donghae wavers for a moment before shaking his head and taking a deep breath as he shouts, "I like you! I like you! I like you!" And for good measure, Donghae kisses Hyukjae full on the lips as tears fall from his eyes. He doesn't know why he's crying. Is it because of fear that he'll get rejected? Is it because he doubts this will work - deep down? Or is he afraid that his sudden confession will ruin the relationship he had with Hyukjae already? This beautiful friendship Donghae had taken years to stabilize because Donghae couldn't trust very easily.
Feeling no response from Hyukjae, Donghae pulls away as more tears threaten to overwhelm him. However, before he could pull away completely, Hyukjae pulls Donghae closer and whispers, "Took you long enough." And he kisses the younger senseless.
Now, 2011 as Super Junior faces the greatest of hardships, Donghae holds Hyukjae's hand tightly and smiles at the other. Hyukjae shoots a reassuring smile back, and squeezing back before they step up on stage together - releasing their hold on each other's hand, although the touch still lingers. Sure, they ruined a grand friendship through this. However, they built an even more beautiful relationship from it.
