(Backdated to Wednesday night. Tag whoever you want and meet other people IC.)As far as she knew, Chloe had managed to keep this a surprise. She had been planning on driving to the Ace of Clubs with Lois and Hal but since the cake had been delayed, she had had to change her plans, leave early to pick it up at the very last possible minute and go ( Read more... )

She tilted her head to the side standing in the elevator, small, wrapped, rectangular box in her hand as she stared at the numbers waiting for it to get to the top. She had talked to Oliver about Chloe's cousin's birthday party and he said he had something to do, but he would meet her there. Mia tapped her foot, her heel clicking lightly on the floor as the elevator chimed.

"Finally," she mumbled as the doors slid open and she glanced around taking in the gold and silver decorations before stepping out of the elevator. She smoothed a hand over her black dress wondering if maybe she should have worn something else when a few heads turned in her direction. She glanced around slightly lost, not exactly sure where she was supposed to go.

Mia bit her lower lip and ran a hand through her hair shaking the curls there slightly before catching sight of a table where the cake was. She wondered if maybe that's where she was supposed to put the gift. She started walking in that direction, making a beeline for the table.

"You're in the right place," Chloe called a moment later when she saw the girl walking up to the table. Only one of the people on the guest list was young enough, so even if she hadn't actually met the girl face-to-face before, she recognized her.

If she had to admit though, she was a little disappointed to see the younger woman on her own. She meant her offer to try and introduce her to new people so she would be able to start her own social circle in Metropolis, but she also meant the invite extension to her cousin.

There was just something about Oliver Queen that intrigued her and she had been hoping to find out more about the billionaire tonight.

Mia turned her attention to the blonde in red and smiled. "Chloe right?" She asked while placing the gift down on the table and glancing around the club. "This is a nice place," She said lightly as she took in the other people around them. She wondered how long it would take Oliver to run whatever errands he was running before he got there.

She turned and extended her hand. "I'm Mia, it's nice to meet you."

"That's me," she told her, smiling back as she took her hand and shook it, "nice meeting you too, glad you could make it." She told Mia sincerely, "people should start getting here soon and I will make sure to introduce you to the ones worth talking to."

Tess just wanted a drink. A big one. It had been the day from Hell - scratch that; it had been the month from Hell - and she was not inclined to make the three hour drive to Smallville right now. A strong, cold drink and the anonymous company that came with a place like the Ace of Clubs were exactly what she needed.

Suffice it to say, when Tess stepped off the elevator and her eyes caught the decorations, she silently cursed. According to the over-sized banner over the bar, Lois Lane was having a birthday party here tonight. Lovely. The redhead had a vague recollection of an invitation - likely, another one of Sullivan's attempts to be cute.

If she stayed, she could kiss those stolen moments of mild relaxation she had planned goodbye. With that in mind, Tess turned and pushed the down button on the elevator. She figured she had maybe thirty seconds for it to arrive before someone noticed her.

And of course she wouldn't get away that easily. Not with the Sullivan-Lane duo around. "Tess," Chloe called, not bothering with formalities, it was a party after all and although she and her boss didn't have a relationship that even resembled anything like a social one, she was sure that her reaction to Chloe using her first name would be worth it.

"You can leave the Planet after all, I didn't think it would ever happen."

Of course Chloe would be the one to see her. And of course it took the blonde all of five seconds to irritate her, which she didn't doubt was on purpose. If Sullivan wasn't such a capable reporter, Tess would have fired her on Day One. "Chloe," she replied, turning to face the younger woman and arching an eyebrow.

"You know, if you're trying to mock me, you really should find new material. I'm feeling generous, so I'll help clear something up for you: having a strong work ethic is not a bad thing."

"Oh, I know all about a strong work ethic, Tess." Chloe grinned a little then shrugged, "but it's good to know even you need to get out and relax sometimes. Besides, I'm sure Lois will like seeing you here."

Chloe didn't dislike the woman completely, she was kind of a bitch but she really didn't seem to have much of a life outside of work and it was kind of... sad. Not that Chloe herself had much of a life that didn't involve the Planet, but at least she had Lois.

How could her mom stand that guy? It wasn't even like he was rich or anything! Just another famous jerk who promised to snag Cissie a role in yet another dead-end movie that'd probably become a cult classic in twenty years, give or take a few! Ugh. Some nights, Cissie just wanted to shake her mom and ask her if she even thought about the kinds of boyfriends she was dating these days.

Even though she was way too young for drinks - even the bartender could tell she was still in middle school - Cissie'd somehow managed to sneak away from her mom and "boyfriend of the month" to... do something that didn't involve being embarrassed and watching them make out in the middle of a restaurant.

The moment she saw the banner and the decorations, she couldn't help confusedly staring at them. Huh, so it was someone's birthday... well, at least someone was going to have a good time tonight.

Just as she got her second glass of champagne, Chloe turned around and nearly bumped into someone, someone who was actually shorter than she was and that never happened, "oh, I'm so sorry," she apologized quickly then paused when she saw a girl that looked even younger than Oliver's cousin and also who looked completely confused.

"It's okay!" Cissie quickly piped up, standing on her very tip-toes to get a better look at this other person. She was kinda pretty, now that Cissie could get a better look...

Managing a smile, she gestured towards the banner. "Whoever this Lois person is, I hope she has a good birthday! And um, I didn't mean to crash her party. Really."

"Oh, it's not a big deal," Chloe assured her and smiled, shaking her head. "The area is open, you're not crashing anything and I can tall you that because I'm the one throwing the party. Lois is my cousin." She said, feeling bad for the young girl who was obviously uncomfortable.

Oliver arrived at the party awhile later, glancing around to see if he could spot Mia anywhere. Or the pretty blonde who'd invited him. So far he didn't see either, but he wasn't surprised when several people turned to look at him with wide eyes.

A smirk touched his mouth involuntarily and he moved over toward the bar, ordering a drink and tipping the bartender generously.

Chloe didn't actually see him at first, she heard whispers and a couple of quiet gasps. The party was in full swing at the point with most guests already there, even if there was still no sign of her cousin, which was exactly what Chloe had been hoping for since it was a surprise party.

For a second, she even thought that the gasps had been because her cousin had gotten then, but as she turned toward the elevator, she quickly realized it was not.

She watched the man for a moment and just as he turned away from the bar, she approached him with a smile, "Mr. Queen, you made it."

When he turned around, he found himself face to face with one of the two people he'd been looking forward to seeing. He smiled back at her without hesitation. "I did," he confirmed, his gaze sweeping over her. The red dress she wore looked like it had been made just for her, hugging her curves in all the right places.

The way he looked down at her made her raise her eyebrows, she was pretty sure he had just checked her out, which she was sure was just a instinct on his part, but he hadn't really done that the other time they'd met.

"Your cousin is already here," she said, keeping her own eyes on his face.

Oliver turned from where he'd just ordered his drink and raised his eyebrows as he spotted none other than the birthday girl herself. He smiled a bit. "I think I'm supposed to be wishing you a happy birthday about now."

Lois double took when she heard the words "happy" and "birthday" paired with each other over her shoulder, raising her eyebrows when she matched the voice to the face.

"Oliver Queen? I didn't know you did birthdays."

"What can I say? I like to go against the grain once in awhile." His eyes were twinkling with amusement. "How've you been?"
