Random Quotes

There's a random quotes meme going around that involves going to this site, and sifting through the quotes until you find five that speak to you. hello. I am reading, in the interval between China and Russia, a book called The Assassin's Cloak. It's a compilation of diary entries over the centuries. It's brilliant. It's taught me that I'd like to have a pint with Lord Byron. And Kenneth Williams. And Samuel Pepys. And the aunt of Liane de Pougy, who has an enema administered in her drawing room, in public, by lifting up her skirts then leaving the room a minute later.

Also, I love the word "putter."

Hi Rose,

I've been reading your journal for awhile -- I think I found you through Rhodri. Nice to hear from you! I hope you have fully recovered from your recent illness.

The Assassin's Cloak sounds great. I love reading long gone authors whether it's lovey poetry by Sappho or Rumi, or snarky social commentary by Schopenhauer or Michel de Montaigne and marvelling at how relevant these texts are today.

This might make sound me much more well read and hifalutin than I really am -- I'm just a general reader, with a spotty history with the classics.
