I'd like to have something eloquent to say about this, but my head is stuffy and my nose is running and I'm just about falling asleep, but there's something compelling here that made me read to the very end. *sighs* I kind of love it. Great. Will definitely re-read.
This was perfect, from start to finish. Just, utterly gorgeous and bleak but with the tiniest slivers of hope, like light shining through at the end of the tunnel. I love this story

Thank you so much for your kind words! I love the image you have of Brad because that is how I picture he would be, too, all tall and lanky and hard as tacks lol. I wanted to illustrate a lot of the moments in this fic with screencaps from the series but would've never found the time to organize something like that, though I was definitely seeing moments from the series as I wrote it. And I'm so happy you thought everyone was in character, because that is what I aspire to most in writing fanfiction.
Glad you enjoyed this, as I enjoyed writing it :) Thanks for reading!
I love what you say about AUs, because the ~mission of transposition~ that underlies all AUs is one that is very near and dear to me and I'm so happy you think this succeeds on some level. Thank you so much for reading and for the lovely comment!
There is an independent film called Sweet Land that is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's about Norwegian immigrant farmers in Minnesota and what happens when one of them ends up with a bride who turns out to be German instead of Norwegian, the intolerance they face, the hardship of working the land, and the love they find.
It never occurred to me that the GK boys could work in such a setting, but this story, well, I just want to hug it tightly and never let it go! Amazing.
I have seen Sweet Land and willingly admit that the visuals from that film definitely inspired some of this fic! I'm so glad you think this setting works, given that you love both :) Thanks for reading!
