It's a bit far off yet, but it would still be good to know.

Ah, maybe she's who I was thinking of! I knew it sounded really familiar. I'll have to drop her a message.

Thanks!

I actually live in Portland, not Eugene. :) Eugene is a bit over 100 miles south of here, so it's really not that far (and hour and a half drive if there's no traffic); I go down to visit friends there sometimes, so that's likely how you've seen me mention the name before!

Having not actually lived there, just visited, I don't know everything there is to know about it, but I can tell you my basic impressions. Mostly, that it's a pretty standard college town; in the central and populated areas you get the liberal/hippie/stoner/college-kid vibe; outside of town it reverts to more country/hick/conservative. That's pretty standard for OR, though, it seems.

I got your note, and I'm planning to reply to it more in-depth than this comment! I'm just gonna do that later since I have some other stuff I need to take care of today. ^^; I'll wrack my brain for the pluses and minuses I can think of, and let you know. Oh, and if you do move up here, we should totally hang out!

From what I hear, Eugene is okay, but if you get much outside the city, it gets to resemble parts of the Deep South in really unpleasant social and political ways. Sticking to the city should be okay, though.

One of my old friends from high school lives out there, and she really likes it. She's the wanderlust type, too; she's visited most of the national parks in the US already but Eugene is where she settled.

Personally, I could never live there, because I also know some crazy psycho folks in that area, but that's just me. X)

If I still lived in Oregon, we would have been like an hour apart

I habitually move to places after awesome people have moved away, or right before they move away, etc.

Perhaps one day I will be at the head of the curve.
