Luckily, we're in an election cycle, Chris, so you can just use modified sound bites of the candidates to say stuff about your students.

For example: "The fundamentals of your child's ability is strong."

Hm, maybe not..

Actually, sadly, I probably could get away with that.

Sometimes I am frustrated because this job doesn't seem challenging. Well, it is challenging, but I'm not really learning to be better, I'm just going through the motions. And because there is so little accountability here, I just kind of get by day to day.

It is probably all me though, and my desire to get better needs to grow. Hmm.

Sorry Randy, I should post this on the main page as opposed to replying to you. :)

At Intel, we have a phrase: "You own your own employability."

Meaning, it's your responsibility to learn the important skills to improve your job and network connections, even if your manager's a complete tool and doesn't care about you or your career at all.

But I know how hard it can be to get motivated to improve one's skill set when no one seems to be paying attention or caring whether you improve or not. It's morally degrading, and sometimes I just want to stop going to work for X days, just to see how long it would take until SOMEONE noticed I was missing. Heh, I guess that wouldn't work for you, cause the kids would notice, but still, when your professional peers don't take an active interest in you, it's tough to work on self-improvement.

On another note, what's the deal on that old school NES trick? Why is putting a game on pause for a few hours a trick? Does your character somehow get better while on pause?

Well, I guess I didn't mean trick in the traditional sense. I just meant that, because you can't save in Wily's castle (the last four levels of the game), you either have to beat it all in one sitting or try again later.

But with old NES games like that, if you didn't want to lose your progress but had somewhere to be, you just had to leave the system on.

Very rarely have I had to do that for modern games; even DS/PSP games have a quicksave. I just thought it was appropriate that this game is purposely old school, and I end up having to do something I haven't done in years.

But yeah, you're right; I like that saying your work has. I am trying to get my CLAD certification, which is to help ESL students, but other than that, I don't do much.

Can't find you on Facebook, good sir. Try a search for me (under J. Phillips).

As for parent-teacher conferences, just print out tons and tons of grade sheets. Then you at least have something to go on. :)
