Summary: Maru thinks that he's getting old when he had a toothache.
Author's Notes: Last drabble! Maru's is the toughest to write since... well he's Maru.
Eito knew that something was wrong when Maru ran into the dressing room screaming. Not his usual I’m-hyper-come-play-with-me scream but a true, honest-to-god scream. The scream was terrifying enough for Ryo to take off his headphones, Ohkura to stop tickling Yasu’s stomach. It was so loud that it stopped Yoko and Subaru’s argument and caused Hina to look up in shock. So when Maru entered the dressing room, he found six pairs of eyes looking back at him. He stopped abruptly at the doorway. For the first time since the dawn of time, Kanjani8’s dressing room went totally silent. Nobody moved an inch nor did anyone made any noise.
Maru blinked twice. He looked around the room first before saying anything.
“Guys, I have a toothache.” he said pathetically while cupping his right cheeks with his hand.
It took a while for the six guys to digest what Maru and said. Hina was the first to react. He laughed as soon as the words came out of Maru’s mouth and slapped his hands on his knees. Maru frowned, not finding the whole situation funny at all. Ryo was the second to react. He just snorted and put his headphones back on. Slowly, the remaining occupants of the room started to laugh as well. Maru just stood there, eyes wide as a puppy, mouth turned down so pitifully. It was a while before Yasu came up to him and pulled him to sit on the couch next to Ohkura.
“All right, Maru. Tell us what happened,” Hina asked as he wiped the tears from his eyes.
Maru heaved a sigh first before starting to explain, “Well, I was eating the sweets that you guys gave me for my birthday yesterday and suddenly I felt this sharp pain in my teeth.”
Yoko and Subaru’s laughter that had just began to stop started again. Yasu patted Maru’s back in comfort. And Ohkura who was next to him was chuckling softly.
“I’m getting old aren’t I?” Maru asked as he looked at his shoes.
The whole room went silent once again. Even Hina was at a loss of what to say. The silence grew for a while, only to be broken by Ryo, who had somehow found his way in front of Maru.
“Maru.”
Maru looked up with sad puppy dog eyes.
“So what if you’re getting old? The most important thing is to stay true to yourself isn’t it? That’s what you told me once when I found my first white hair.”
For the first time since he entered the room, Maru smiled. Ryo gave a little smile as well before heading back to his armchair at the opposite side of the room. He ignored the teasing from the other members as he put his headphones back on his ears and settled down.
“Aw. Ryo-chan’s trying to act cool,” Subaru called out.
Yoko agreed by nodding his head vigorously. Hina went up to Ryo and smacked his head.
“Stop acting so cool!” he shouted.
Yasu jumped on top of Ryo and hugged him.
“Ryo-chan is cute.”
Even Ohkura was somehow involved in that embrace. As Maru watched the antics of his friends, he realized that no matter how old they get, he was confident that the seven of them will still stay the same way they are now - childishly close.
