Of course it matters
Personally I think it is a genuine positive outlook on your past, in spite of whether it has been "sweetened" or if it exists in its true form. In the pieces I have known of you, you have always been very positive.. Memories are what we carry with us, and I think it is a notable thing you only want to carry the positive, versus the negative, with you through the present and possibly into the future.
