Chapter Seven

π “Sir, Mr. Jung is here to see you. Should I let him in?”

Heechul was expecting Yunho to come but not in this early time of day. He knows the man and he knows that Yunho will not leave behind his work for something as trivial as his picture being revealed all through the country. Apparently, he was wrong.

“Ask him if he brought any cake, I’m craving for some.”

The door opened and Heechul was disappointed to see the usual poker face of the prosecutor. He was expecting to see an irritated or pissed off look but no, he’s facing the usual look of Yunho in court.

“Long time no see, Your Highness. How can this humble servant help you?” Heechul said with a smirk on his face.

Yunho just raised his eyebrow at him.

“I don’t have time for games Heechul. Now what do you want?”

π
Jaejoong rushed to the SDN building. Fortunately, his bestfriend works there and can maybe help him in his situation. Whenever he’s in trouble, he can always count on his Chullie.

He parked his car and ran towards the elevator. He pushed the top floor while impatiently tapping his foot as the number in the elevator goes higher.

When the door opened, he quickly dashed to Heechul’s office. He saw Siwon walking with a trashcan on his hand.

“Jaejoong, what are you doing here? Why are you out of breath?”

“Is Chullie there? He called me last time and told me that he’s back in Korea and thank God because I really need to talk to him right now. I believe you might have heard that I’m-”

“Whoa! Slow down there, Jae! Just breathe first. You need to calm down.”

Jaejoong obeyed Siwon before he inhaled and exhaled. It helped him relax a little bit but he still feels like he drank a gallon of coffee.

“Sir, Jaejoong is here. He said that it’s very urgent.”

π
“What do I want? What makes you think I want something from you?”

Yunho sighed and put on his coldest glare. “Just tell me what the hell you want from me.”

“Oh, so you’re not here to threaten me then? No ‘if you don’t fix this right now I’m going to blah blah blah blah’?”

“Look, I came here to talk in peace. If you-”

“Tell me something first. How did you meet Kim Jaejoong?”

Yunho assumed what this is all is about. Heechul wanted an interview with him regarding his fiancé so he exposed his face because he knows that Yunho will go see him if he did that.

“I don’t see why that is any of your business.”

“Break up with him.”

Yunho was taken aback by that. He expected to hear startling things from Heechul but that statement really caught him off guard.

“Do you have feelings for me?” That’s the only possible explanation Yunho can hypothesize and it made him want to vomit everything he has eaten in his life.

Which was what Heechul did.

After a few seconds of puking, Heechul called Siwon to throw away his trashcan and buy him a new one. He then glared at the disgusted look of Yunho in front of him.

“You’re not here to threaten me, you’re here to kill me aren’t you?!”

Yunho was about to retort when Siwon spoke in speakerphone informing them about Jaejoong’s presence.

He is officially screwed.

π
“Send him in.”

The door burst open and Jaejoong came running towards Heechul. He hugged him and buried his face on his bestfriend’s neck.

“Chullie-ah! I missed you! I’m sorry I didn’t come see you right away but a lot of things happened and I have a problem and I’m going to jail and rot in prison for the rest of my life!”

He was frozen in his place. He cannot believe what he’s seeing right now. Jaejoong hugging Heechul and crying while Heechul hugs him back. Are they…?

No way…they can’t be!

“What’s wrong sweetheart? Tell me everything.”

π

Yunho listened as Jae, apparently too overwhelmed to recognize his existence at his back, told Heechul all about his lies and how he’s scared that ‘simple person Yunho’ will be in danger because of him.

“So what you’re saying is, that this Yunho guy, the nephew of the police officer, approached you at some gallery, saved your ass from getting kicked and then get his ass saved by you from getting killed, ergo him accepting your request of posing as the prosecutor.” Heechul summarized with a grin on his face without breaking eye contact with Yunho.

“Yes, and I’ll do anything to get him out of the picture. I just need your help.”

“And this fake Yunho, what did he say is his real name?” Heechul said as he stared at the nervous look of Yunho. It’s his first time seeing that expression on the cold-hearted bastard’s face. He’s beginning to understand everything but he needs to verify it from Jae.

“His name is Yunho too. I don’t know what his last name is but he’s really not Jung Yunho. He’s just a simple person whose life is going to be ruined all because of me!” Jaejoong said as he buried his face in his hands.

“I don’t want that to happen. Yunho is a nice and innocent guy. At first you will think that he is an irritating and uncaring person but once you get to know the real him, he’s really sweet and kind. I know that he went to that party against his will but he did anyway because he’s worried that I’m going to embarrass myself if he didn’t show up. And even though I’m not grateful enough, I even yelled at him for showing up, he still comforted me when my heart is broken.” Jaejoong said as he wiped his tears with the back of his hand.

“Okay I’ll try my best to help. What do you want me to do?”

“I want to be interviewed by any reporter of yours and I will tell him or her the whole story. Can you do that for me?” Jae pleaded with his puppy dog eyes that he knows Heechul can’t resist.

“What?! Are you insane? You’ll be the laughing stock of the whole country if you do that!”

Jaejoong sighed defeatedly. “I know, but I can’t do this to Yunho. I’m going to do it whether you help me or not. It’s just that, I’m going to be more comfortable if I do this here.”

Heechul hugged Jaejoong. He saw Yunho about to talk when he signaled him to stop with his hand. He waved him to go now while Jaejoong is still unaware of his presence. Yunho nodded and mouthed a silent ‘thank you’ and he left.

π
After Yunho left Heechul’s office, he went to his car, sat in the driver seat, closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose. He could’ve told Jae then and there, he could’ve, but after hearing how Jaejoong cares about Yunho and how good he thinks the guy is, all of whatever he has planned to say was gone like the wind.

He didn’t know that he left that kind of impression in Jae. All he did was act like an asshole in front of him all the time but Jaejoong seems to think differently. He’s not used to hearing someone say nice things about him because all his life, even in his childhood, everyone’s opinions about him are very much the same. Unapproachable, unemotional, know-it-all and cold-hearted person who thinks he’s always right. Of course he doesn’t care about what other people think about him so it doesn’t affect him any other way. But for someone to get passed through all his façade, for someone actually see the real him and not the famous prosecutor that everyone is scared of, he hates to admit it but it felt good.

He wished he were really just Jaejoong’s normal Yunho.

πJaejoong left Heechul’s office. His best friend said that he’ll come up with a plan and just trust him that everything will be alright and even vouched that the prosecutor will not harm his friend Yunho.

He went to the parking lot and as he was about to open his car, he was startled as someone tapped his shoulders. He turned around and was surprised to see Yunho, smiling at him.

“Jae, can we talk?”

π
They went to a nearby coffee shop and sat at a secluded area because they noticed that people are looking at them.

They stayed silent for a while, just staring at anywhere but each other.

“Listen.” They both said at the same time.

“I…uh.” They both said again.

Their eyes met then they started laughing, and just like that all the awkwardness that happened a while ago disappeared into thin air.

“Listen Yunho, I am very sorry for what happened. But I promise you that I’ll do everything to make things the way it were before you met me.”

“I don’t want to go back.” Yunho murmured.

“What?”

“Nothing. Look, I’m going to tell you something important later but before that, I want you to have one last date with me.”

Jaejoong tilted his head adorably looking like a confused kitten.

“Don’t do that, it’s distracting me.”

“Don’t do what?” and then Jae did it again.

“Just…nevermind. Anyway, what do you say? Have that one last date with me before I go to prison?”

“That’s not funny you know. And you will not go to prison. They have to kill me first.” He grabbed Yunho’s hand and look into his eyes.

“Let’s have that one last date shall we?”

π
For Jaejoong, this could really be their last time together. Because he didn’t think that he will have the face to stay in the country after he’s done confessing.

They went wherever their feet is taking them. To an amusement park where Yunho finds out that he really doesn’t like roller coasters. Okay understatement, he hates them. Then they went ice-skating where Jaejoong finds out that his butt is like magnet to ice and Yunho looks very hot and graceful gliding in the ice. And then they went to a karaoke place where they both found out that they’re good at singing. They took pictures, they ate street foods and did everything that every couple did in every Korean drama before something bad happens. Then they went to a park where they just sit while laughing at something they witnessed earlier in the amusement park.

“That guy totally deserved it, I mean dating your brother’s girlfriend and then cheating on that same girl with her best friend? That ice cream on his face and iced tea on his crotch are not enough punishment.”

“Whoa, you heard that from us just passing by?” Yunho said, really surprised because they literally just passed and he did not get any story from seeing two girls pour ice cream and iced tea on that douchebag.

“I didn’t hear it, it’s just clearly obvious right?” Jaejoong said as if common sense was enough to make his statement correct.

“No, it’s not. You need to have evidences or proofs to validate your story. You also need witnesses to…No, why do I even bother? You’re probably right.” Yunho remembers that Jaejoong likes to analyze every situation, make a hypothesis and without any relevant facts or data, concludes everything by himself. It’s supposed to be a bad thing but then he realized, that trait of Jaejoong is one of the reasons why he fell for him in the first place so for him, it’s a good thing.

“You realized it too, didn’t you?” Jaejoong gave him one of his best smiles and his expression says that he really appreciated Yunho siding with him. Yunho feels like his heart is going to come out of his chest. He also smiled at Jaejoong and held his hand.

“You’re right. I did.”

π
After the park, they walked hand in hand until they reached Yunho’s apartment.

“You want to uh...go to my place?” Yunho started to get nervous because the time where he needs to tell Jaejoong the truth is getting nearer. Jaejoong nodded and they went inside the building. Good thing he texted Changmin earlier that he needed to sleep at Yoochun’s place tonight because he needed the apartment.

After they got inside, Jaejoong scanned the environment. He’s an architect after all so he took time in checking the rooms and design of the building.

“You have a really nice place. Do you live here alone?” Jae said as he looked at the books in the bookshelf.

“Thanks. Yes I live alone, though recently my cousin moved in with me. But he’s not going to stay long. Do you want coffee or anything?” Yunho changed the subject immediately at the mention of his cousin. He doesn’t really want to talk about him right now. Well, he will later after he confessed everything to Jaejoong.

“No, I’m good, thanks.”

Yunho sat beside Jaejoong. He stayed quiet for a while Jaejoong stared at him. He’s not very good at telling someone the truth because he has never lied like this before. What he’s good at is making people tell him the truth. He only realized that it’s really very hard. He sighed and looked at Jaejoong’s eyes.

“I said earlier that this might probably be our last date because the thing that I will tell you might ruin whatever impression you have on me. I want you to forever see me as the Yunho that you know right now, simple, nice, caring guy Yunho whom you can go to parks with, you can eat street foods with, and do all those other crazy stuff that you only see in movies. I really like you Jae, and I want to be that guy to you and I will do just anything to not change that but unfortunately I can’t. The truth is-”

They heard the door opened and both were surprised when an old beautiful woman entered.

“Surprise!” The woman said as she went to the shocked Yunho and hugged him.

“Aww! Is this the Jaejoong that is soon to be my son-in-law?” She then went and also hugged the equally dumbstrucked Jae.

“I’m very sorry for my manners, I haven’t even introduced myself. I’m just very excited to see you! I’m Jung Eunsoo. Just call me mother.”
