I have brown hair and brown eyes and I love most things Asian.  I also love elbow skin.  And languages.  And chocolate.  I was raised in a household with a mom and a dad, and later on we were joined by a brother and a dog.  I am a morning person.  I love a lot.  A lot of people, a lot of places, and lot of things.  I love love!  I like to make ( Read more... )

Omg, I've been thinking about this kind of stuff so much recently... I was born in the United States, but my family are all German, supposedly. However, they all have auburn hair and green eyes, whereas my dad and I have dark hair and dark eyes and olive skin. And my dad's name is Maples, which is an English name. We don't know a lot about his father, because his dad died when he was six, but clearly through all those Germans that one line of Englishness persisted, and that's how I got my name. For me my identification with my ancestral heritige is more like... eh... I use this term loosely since I can't find a better one... a joke. Yeah, I'm part Irish. I love making a point of it around St. Patty's day and ham it up with my other Irish/part Irish friends. It adds some flair. My only real connection I feel comes from being raised Irish Catholic. So, I can identify with some of the traditions.

That being said, I'm also quick to jump in to say that I'm part French Canadian when people start talking about hating France or Canada just so I can stir the pot up a little.

Do I truly feel any special "bonds" with any of my ancestral heritige? Other than a few cultural traditions, not at all. Just fun facts to know that make a conversation piece from time to time.

Personally, I enjoy my individual identity most.
