this “Are you laughing at me?” Junsu mumbled into the phone at two in the morning. It hadn't even been five minutes since he'd answered the phone, and yet already he was getting ridiculed by the man on the other end of the line.
There was a few seconds of silence before a muffled chuckle escaped past the other party’s lips.
Junsu frowned.
“Hyunnggg~ don’t laugh, I really tried my best,” he said with a whine.
A deep chuckle sounded from the other end as the leader of Dong Bang Shin Ki laughed again at his band member’s words.
“You’ve been around me long enough to know what the Jeollado dialect should sound like. Yours was nothing like it. And you were laughing at yourself towards the end anyway so it shouldn’t matter if I do too.”
“But you’re my boyfriend, and boyfriends don’t laugh at each other. You’re supposed to be giving me your utmost support,” Junsu reasoned childishly.
He suddenly regretted nominating himself to speak in the Jeollado dialect for JYJ's 'The Day' promotional video message. He also regretted linking Yunho to the video as soon as it was posted up on their Youtube channel.
Yunho just laughed again and Junsu decided right then and there that if this was what it took to hear the leader laughing so happily and unrestrained, then he’d happily speak in his broken Jeollado accent just to hear it again and again.
“I wish I could see you right now,” Junsu blurted out suddenly.
It was silent for a few seconds and Junsu could just see the bittersweet smile forming on his lover's face.
“Me too,” came the reply, Yunho's voice close to a whisper.
More silence, and then Junsu decided he didn't want their minds to spiral down to the depressing thoughts of not being able to see each other as freely as before; time to change the topic again.
“So how are the concerts coming along over there? Are you and Changmin doing fine?” Junsu asked, referring to the Tone concerts that Yunho and Changmin were currently holding in Japan over the course of the next few months.
He heard shuffling on the other end and presumed it was the leader shifting onto his side in bed so he could put the phone between his ear and the pillow.
“Everything's going good, but Changmin keeps telling me to lower the level of skinship on stage,” the leader replied back jokingly, glad to be able to find something to talk and laugh about to brighten up the mood.
“Definitely agree with him there,” Junsu replied sulkily, although there was no real heat behind his words.
Yunho just chuckled.
“Although," Junsu added as an afterthought. "Jaejoong said he and Yoochun like watching the fancams. They enjoy seeing Changmin getting all bothered and embarrassed by it all.”
“Well, if you put it that way … I guess Changminnie will have to suffer a little bit longer then." A pause and then, "You aren't really jealous of him are you?" Yunho asked, suddenly uncertain if he had upset the younger man or not.
Of course I'm not, I just wish that Jaejoong, Yoochun and I were there together on stage with you and Changmin was what Junsu wanted to say in return, but he kept it in, refusing to let the mood dampen again. No use pointing out something that wouldn't happen for a long time to come.
"I'd be an idiot to be jealous of some HoMin fan servicing hyung," he said instead. "If' I've managed to endure over six years of YunJae fan servicing, then I should be able to survive three months of HoMin fan servicing from your concerts right?"
Yunho laughed in response, immediately agreeing to Junsu's reasoning.
"So I was wondering …" Yunho started after a few minutes of comfortable silence had passed between them.
"Hmm?" Junsu replied as he too decided to shift onto his side and have his phone between ear and pillow.
"Maybe I should start giving you lessons every night on how to speak in the Jeollado accent properly," Yunho suggested nonchalantly.
Junsu pouted, regardless of the fact that Yunho couldn't see it.
"I'm not saying you're really bad Su-ah," Yunho continued. "But it's good to perfect it, so then the next time you go to Gwangju, you can dazzle everyone with your awesome perfect Jeollado accent."
Junsu couldn't help but giggle at the leader's reasoning.
"Oh … well since you put it that way, I guess I can't say no to that then Jung songsaengnim."
Yunho laughed, long and loud and Junsu silently wished that he could hear it in real life.
One day … one day we'll be side by side again, just like the old times, Junsu thought to himself with a smile as Yunho started his speech on the proper ways of speaking in the Jeollado dialect.
