It’s another sunny day in Krabi - Southern Thailand. I lay a piece of cloth on the soft sand then sit on it with my legs stretch out. I look at the blue sea in front of me then take a deep breath, enjoying the nice smell of sea before taking out my tab from my bag. I put on my earphone, letting the mp3 player plays random songs from the playlist while my hands start typing on the tab.

A light tap on my shoulder few minutes later makes me stop then look up. A man smiles at me before sitting next to me. The man has this petite body and pretty face. Sometimes I say he probably looks prettier than me or any other women. He opens his mouth and I instantly put off my earphone.

“Writing something for your blog?” asked him. I just nod as the answer.

“Which one? The travel one? Or the fiction one?” He continued.

“Both… perhaps.. I don’t know… I’m just scratching this and that on the note,” I answered honestly. He nods few times before he lays his head on the sand and closes his eyes, probably enjoying the refreshing breeze this afternoon. I decide to continue my writing.

Like the petite man said, I’m currently managing two blogs. I like writing and also traveling, so I tried to make money from both hobbies. I have a blog where I share my traveling experience and I have another blog where I post some fiction stories. Both are doing pretty well right now.

Anyway, I haven’t tell my name. I’m Hae Woon and the guy lying next to me is Yesung. We met accidentally in Kyoto. I was in a park, taking pictures of the beautiful scenery when I saw this pretty guy trying to take pictures of himself. I finally offered myself to take his pictures. Since we were coming from the same country and we traveled alone, we decided to explore Kyoto together. Coincidentally, our next destination was also the same, Krabi. So, here I am now. In a beautiful beach named Bamboo Island, enjoying a nice afternoon with a nice man who is most likely prettier than I am.

The sun set is almost coming when I decide to stop writing and just lying on the sand, just like Yesung. We haven’t talked much this last two hours. Yesung is somehow still closing his eyes while I’m just busy with my raw idea for my next posts.

“You know… beach always reminds me about someone,” said Yesung out of sudden. I look at him and I can guess the one he mentioned about must be someone he loves. He has this nice smile that is usually curved when you are thinking or meeting someone special.

“Your girlfriend?” I don’t know if it is my writer instinct that makes me more observant, but after spending two weeks with Yesung, I think Yesung is a gay. However, I guess mentioning a safe assumption is better now.

Yesung chukles lightly. His eyes meet mine for a while before he casts his head down and his hands start playing with the sand. “Do you think so?” He replied ambiguously.

“… or a boyfriend?” I try my luck.

Yesung sighs. “There is this guy that I have known for about nine years and I dearly love for about eight years.”

I bend my knees, put my chin on the knees and look at Yesung, signaling him I’m listening to him.

“… Siwon. His name is Choi Siwon,” Yesung continued.

Yesung met Siwon in a church in their neighborhood. At first, they didn’t talk much and just exchanged smile or short greeting whenever they meet in the church. One day, they accidentally met in the cafeteria of their university. It turned out that they were not only living in the same neighborhood but also going to the same university - Busan State University. Yesung was in his third year of Mass Communication major while Siwon was in his second year of Business Administration major.

It began with a small conversation then continued to a daily meeting. When they met, they would talk about many things - from the movies they have watched, to the philosophy books Yesung reading, and even about religion and God. They could talk about anything, they would discuss whatever came to their mind and sometimes argued each other.

Siwon was originally from Busan while Yesung moved from Cheonan to Busan. Siwon lived with his parents and his younger sister while Yesung stayed in a small apartment about five blocks from Siwon’s house. Some times Yesung would spend a night in Siwon’s house but most of the time, it was Siwon who stayed in Yesung’s place.

“He’s a smart guy,” Yesung commented. “We always have nice discussion whenever we meet.”

It was a year later when Yesung started to realize that he had different affection towards Siwon. His heart would pump twice or even three times faster when he met Siwon. He liked Siwon, Yesung already knew it. But this new ‘like’ feeling was  different to before. This new ‘like’ feeling made Yesung felt jealous, nervous, happy, sad any many other weird feelings for Siwon.

It was a hard situation for Yesung. As much as he enjoyed spending time with Siwon, he was also afraid Siwon would realize that the way Yesung looked at Siwon had changed. Little by little, Yesung began avoiding Siwon. Yesung joined several clubs in his campus, making sure he had no time for Siwon.

Siwon was confused in the beginning. He knew Yesung was avoiding him but he couldn’t understand why. Siwon tried to contact Yesung many times but then he finally gave up after few weeks trying, thinking that maybe Yesung needed some time alone.

“We didn’t contact each other for about three months, I guessed,” said Yesung. My face frown in confusion.

It was a windy afternoon in the middle of autumn when Yesung suddenly got a text message from Siwon. The said man asked Yesung to meet him in the park near Yesung’s apartment. Yesung was in doubt. He really wanted to meet Siwon but he knew his feeling hadn’t gone yet and he didn’t know what he would say to Siwon when they met later.  Yesung was pacing on his room, thinking what should he do before he finally grabbed random jacket in his closet then walked out of his apartment. Siwon was already in the park when Yesung finally arrived with a panting breath.

They awkwardly greeted each other then sat on the bench. For about thirty minutes they just sat there quietly. No one started the conversation. Perhaps, they’re trying to feel each other presence. They missed each other, they knew it. But they let it hanging in the air.

“How are you doing?” Siwon was the first to break their silence with such an awkward question. For a few moment, Yesung didn’t say anything. He was just looking at his small fingers mindlessly.

“Good… I guess,” answered Yesung. “What about you?”

“Weird.” Siwon sighed loudly.

There was a brief silence before Siwon continued, “Yesung, what’s wrong with us? It feels like we’re not the way we used to be lately. You keep avoiding me.”

Yesung rub his face with his hands harshly before looking at Siwon. “I’m sorry Siwon. I’m really sorry,” said Yesung finally with a very low and husky voice.

“I don’t know… it’s just…. I feel like… I don’t know…” Yesung shook his head for many times. “It feels like I’ve done something wrong whenever I’m with you. It feels like I’ve felt something that I shouldn’t.”

Yesung suddenly bursted into tears. His shoulders were trembling hardly but somehow Siwon decided not to hug Yesung or touch him. He just let Yesung cried.

“I tried.. so hard to deny it… I tried so hard to ask for forgiveness from God. I kept on praying…. I know this is a sin… but the more I pray… the more I denied it… it hurts me more and more.” Yesung tried to speak between his sobs.

Siwon finally stretch out his hand and put it on Yesung’s shoulder, giving a light squeeze to Yesung. The small man bit his bottom lip, trying to stop his cry. Siwon gave a small smile, making Yesung’s heart suddenly beat rapidly.

“Let’s go,” said Siwon making Yesung’s brows knitted in confusion. Siwon patted Yesung’ shoulder.

“Just follow me,” uttered Siwon again. Yesung finally did what Siwon said. He stood up then followed Siwon who was walking to his motorbike parked near the bench. As soon as Yesung got on his motorbike, Siwon turned on the engine and started  riding the bike. Yesung instantly circled his hand on Siwon’s waist.

Siwon rode his bike for at least about an hour. Yesung looked at the road they’re passing and it seemed like Siwon was heading outside Busan. It was thirty minutes later when Siwon finally stopped his motorbike right in front of a beach.

The sun was almost going down when they reached the beach. It was a quiet place, no one was there except the two men. Siwon grabbed Yesung’s hand then lead their way to the seashore. Another quiet moment came when they sat side by side on the sand. Yesung was mindlessly playing with the sand, waiting for Siwon to start speaking.

“When you suddenly drifting away from me….” Siwon finally started speaking. “I start feeling something important is missing from my life and somehow I end up thinking about us…. And I realize how important you are for me…” Siwon shifted his glance to Yesung who was still playing with the sand.

Siwon suddenly put his hand around Yesung’s shoulder, making the small man stayed still. Yesung took a gulp, trying to calm himself. After being close with Siwon for about a year, Yesung learned that Siwon was such a touchy person. He liked to touch Yesung’s hand, hug him, or even kiss him. Those skin ships were okay for Yesung… before his feeling towards Siwon was changing. Now, even a single touch could make his face feel hotter and his heart bumping loudly.

“You’re not the only sinner… if you think what you have for me is a sin,” continued Siwon while stroking Yesung’s arm softly. Siwon’s free hand grab Yesung’s chin, making the petite man looked at him.

“.. because I am… too.. a sinner,” said Siwon slowly before his face moving closer to Yesung’s then finally kissed him. It was a short yet deep kiss for them. There was still a doubt there but they can also feel their true feelings.

Yesung opened his mouth, trying to say something to Siwon but for a few seconds he could only move his mouth without any sound heard. He still couldn't believe his ears. He was just afraid that his hearing was playing a trick with his feeling, it told Yesung what he wanted to hear from Siwon.

Yesung closed his eyes for a few moment, trying to recall the sentences Siwon just said and making sure he didn't misheard or misinterpreted them. Yesung slwoly opened his eyes then looked at Siwon's eyes directly.
He saw it! Yesung clearly saw it! And he surely didn't misunderstand everything. He saw affection in Siwon's eyes. The one that Yesung believed was also reflected through his eyes.

Yesung's eyes were glistening with tears again but a beautiful smile was carved in his face.

“I love you,” said Yesung slowly, making sure Siwon heard every single word he uttered.

“I love you, too,” replied Siwon.

Yesung looks at the beautiful sea in front of us. He takes a deep breath then lets it out loudly through his mouth. “It’s such a happy moment and also a hurtful one at the same time,” he said.

“Why?”

“We know we love each other…. But we know we are wrong.” The last sentence is said in a very low tone. I couldn’t say anything but nod. Yesung is right.

The sun is slowly setting, creating a splendid colour of orange on the blue sea. However, it seems like Yesung and I are still enjoying our time one the beach.

“So, you’ve been together about nine years now?” I asked. Yesung nods, still with that beautiful smile plastered on his face.

“Yeah.. we’ve known each other for nine years now. Our parents even know each other.”

“But they’re not being suspicious about your relationship?”

Yesung shakes his head. “I don’t know… I mean.. I don’t know about Siwon’s parents but I guess my mother sees something different between us.”

Yesung looks at me, “.. but you know… she must have denied it…. I mean.. probably she knows that we’re just more than friends but she knows it’s such a wrong thing… so, I guess, she just keeps denying that.”

“I know.. I get what you’re talking about… You’re not planning to tell your parents?”

The smile is suddenly gone, replaced by a loud sigh. “I don’t think so… honestly I don’t know what will we do about us.”

“Where is he now?”

“In Seoul.” Yesung bends his knees then circles his hand around his legs. “It’s been a long journey for both of us…. Eight years since the first time we confessed to each other and our relationship is never about sex.”

“You have never done that?” Well, I should say I’m quite surprised.

Yesung shakes his head. “No… it’s never about that. What I feel is…. Our relationship is about being intimate without having that stuff. I just like spending time with him.”

I can’t help myself but smiling. “I see love in your eyes.” I finally say what I’m thinking. Yesung lets out a soft laugh.

-not end yet-

It was made based on the story of my friend. It was such a beautiful one and I do really hope I can deliver it back as beautiful as I hear it.... :)
