Rule of thumb with the dresden files: First three are mediocre. Get past those, and they get AWESOME. Book four is one of my favorites, and by the time you get to 7 through the present they're REALLY hard to put down.

Some things in Three in particular come up as pretty important, so probably just as well. :)

Butcher actually wrote book 1 as a parody/experiment of messing with the standard formula for some class he had to take. It shows.
