"I'm gonna die!"
Everyone in the dance studio turned to stare at Jonghyun, who panted harshly and fell flat on his butt on the smooth hardwood floor. He tried to slowly breathe in and out.
Suddenly, Taemin exclaimed, "MOUTH TO MOUTH RECICITATION!" and ran towards his hyung. Minho swiftly caught him in his arms and swung him back to where Taemin originally stood to practice. "No mouth to mouth. At all." He glared at the younger boy, who simply scoffed and flipped his long hair, which was tied in a ponytail.
Key immediately ran to the rescue and plopped down beside Jonghyun, giving him his inhaler. "Hey, Keroro, toss me a bottle!" The diva called out to his friend, who nodded and tossed him a water bottle. Key caught it and opened the lid, helping Jonghyun with drinking the water after he used his inhaler.
Everyone other than Amber and Taemin stared at the two best friends. Key simply looked up at all of them and said, "Asthma and failed liver enzymes." He didn't explain a whole lot of detail for once, considering he's known as the best gossiper on the college campus.
The club members nodded at each other and slowly started going over their routine more. Their sudden performance had to be on a Wednesday afternoon, and it was currently two days before. Everyone had to hustle but luckily they all learned quickly with what they've been taught.
Jay was the only one who didn't seem to pay attention and started moving towards Jonghyun. Taemin glanced at the mirror mid-way his practice and frowned when he saw Jonghyun smile at Jay, who was helping him up slowly with Key. Minho caught the gaze and decided to intervene by accidentally bumping into him on the left side. The young dancer yelped and stumbled on his feet to the right, glaring at the tall Casanova.
Key smirked at the sight and glanced at Jay and Jonghyun, smiling sweetly. "I'll go check what's going on over there. Jay hyung, could you watch Jonghyun for me? I think he's had enough practice and stress for the day." Jay nodded and led the short asthmatic man out of the dance studio.
The two men walked down the hallway and slumped against a wall, sitting on the clean tiled floor. Jay still carried Jonghyun's water bottle just in case the latter needed it. Jonghyun looked up at him and smiled softly. "Thanks, man. I really needed the break." He spoke softly then sighed haggardly.
Jay ruffled the shorter man's hair and nodded. "Anytime, man." He grinned. "You got any assignments that need to get done?"
Jonghyun pouted and nodded, staring off into space. "I have an English assignment that needs to be typed and due tomorrow evening and a concert music report that is also due by Thursday and I need to study and practice my rhythm, sight singing, and keyboard skills and moreover I'm trying to lose weight!" He complained and whined in one breath.
The b-boy blinked and rubbed Jonghyun's back slowly. "Try breathing and drinking water more. That would help a lot," he advised him wisely and continued to use his finger to rub gentle circles on his back. Jonghyun did as he was told and thanked him, settling into a somewhat comfortable silence in the hallway.
"..........................my father used to drink and smoke a lot."
Jay's eyes widened and his head turned towards Jonghyun, who stared off at the floor.
"In South Korea, my father would always come home at night drunk and he'd smoke in the living room of our little apartment. My mother, on the other hand, would keep the windows and doors shut. I was usually left to try breathing in a broken ventilator." Jonghyun chuckled bitterly and turned to Jay slowly. "When I was grounded one night at the age of 13, my parents had beat me up, stuffed food down my throat to make sure I had dinner, then locked me up in my bedroom. It seems as though I passed out at that night, because by the next day, I woke up in a hospital. Key's parents were talking to the doctors and Key had stayed by my side. Turns out he was the one who found my body in the late morning, when he noticed I wasn't at school and he ditched school just to find me. That's how he started picking locks and even now, he could probably rob a thrift store at night."
The bitter smile on Jonghyun's face turned sour. Jay bit his lip in thought. So this is why he wished Key's parents were his....
All of a sudden, Jonghyun's eyes turned bright with slight hope. "If it hadn't been for Key and his family, I would have never survived in my house. However, Key's family had to relocate many times around the world. After years of enduring the pain from my parents and school, Key one day managed to put me in a scholarship program and whisk me off to this country. I've been staying with Key's family ever since."
Jay's jaw slacked open and gaped at Jonghyun's story in mild shock. "Wow, I'm so sorry that happened to you..."
Jonghyun shrugged and smiled in content at him. "It's alright. It's friends like you who help me get by."
Okay, he definitely does not need to know about the bet. Because there is no bet anymore. Yeah. Jay nodded his head slightly with determination and without thinking, pressed his lips to Jonghyun's temple.
The shorter of the two gasped in shock and his eyes widened at him. Jay hesitantly pulled away to look down at Jonghyun. They locked eyes for a moment before Jay slowly leaned in and....
"HEY!!!"
Both men leaped away from each other and stared at the basketball coach glaring at them.
"I'M GIVING YOU TWO LOVEBIRDS A WARNING! NO KISSING IN THE HALLWAY OF THE GYM!"
