One cup became two. And two became three. I stared outside the window to see people walking by. Some ran while taking a glimpse of their watch. The smell of bitterness invaded my senses as a cup of coffee was presented to me. I looked up to see a petite girl with an apron around her torso smiled. A warm coffee for a nice gentleman here, she said. I gave her tips after wards.
It was nice. The walls were not painted in strong colours and it eased my mind. For a moment, I had forgotten my intention. Here I am, in a Coffee Shop, waiting for someone.
It had been an hour and he was nowhere to be seen. The clattering sound of the cups and plates accompanied by the faint music gave me chills. I liked the ambiance here. The cold that was immediately subside due to the warm coffee.
“Let’s talk over a coffee. We can find in a café. They say we can find beauty within us. Do you know how magical coffee can be?”
I recalled the way he said it over the phone. He was definitely excited about our meeting and coffee has always been his favourite.
Kim Himchan is his name and here I am waiting for his arrival.
“Sir, do you need another coffee?”
I was lost in a trance until I felt a tap on my shoulder and a voice that was not what I was expecting. The previous girl came back, flashing a smile. Oh another coffee I guess. I agreed and she brought me another cup, taking my empty cup away.
“This is going to be the first coffee date for me and I am glad that it is you, Yongguk.”
I was contented that I was the first. I am his first, our date would be his first and our meeting would be the first too. But I am agitated… he was nowhere at sight. He could not be late. He said he would never be late - especially for me.
“Uhmm… excuse me. I am sorry but we are closing soon.”
I was chased out and outside was colder than inside. He did not come for me. Did he ditch our coffee date? I hung my head low as I walked away. He lied.

He was asked to leave but he begged one last time. He wanted to sit there a little bit longer. He would be here any minute and this was his last chance in finding true love. He glanced over his shoulder to see the empty chairs and cleaned tables. He sighed almost defeated.
“No, he will definitely come for me.”
Himchan drank his 6th cup of Americano and waited for Yongguk patiently in Starbucks across the Coffee Shop.
