I have absolutely no idea if there is a driving principle. My main muse? I picked Tonks absolutely by chance. Well, that and because she got married to the character I had fallen in love with ;)
Actually that IS one of the reasons for me to pick up a muse - be the interest of a character I love. I have not that much interest in picking the pups I fall in love with themselves.
The other thing? Something I disagree with in a muse. Something I don't get, something I need to understand. A mystery, be it a decision or an attitude, but it must be something important or it's not fun.

I'd change myself and fast forward to having more experience and not blanking out on things while they're happening and only managing to react later sometimes. And, I'd give myself a sense of plots - how to come up with them, how to decide if they're good enough to suggest other muns
