I went shopping at AA this afternoon & in my changeroom was this freaky fuckin photo montage of some chicky modelling SOCKS but you'd never know it for all the TITS & ASS in the pics, it was pretty barfy. not that I still didn't buy a shirt. but right, like what the hell is going on here? my mom & I discussed this loudly in the store.
WHY are you lying in bed, biting your lip? why are you lying in bed, with no company but for a male limb jutting into the photo? why are you lying in bed?? this is an ad for clothing. I have sheets already, thanks.
& doesn't American Apparel sell pants, for that matter? why are you nearly naked in every. single. picture? what about - & this may be a silly question - shirts? oh, but I don't mean the ones you inexplicably wear in the shower (???) or just sufficiently moistened for a nice break out on the balcony. no, really, what about using AA clothes for actual outfits? I'm no fashionista but I think that's still what people are buying clothes for. not to wear soaking wet. not to wear with kitten heels in a dirty alleyway. not to wear while sprawled postcoitally or fearfully or at the very least impractically across the hardwood floor or the leather backseat of some car. but to wear. no?

I like AA clothes. they're simple, comfortable, "sweatshop-free". I like them, I do. but godDAMN if I'm not tired of this. what kind of a progressive company advertises their clothes with images that don't even include any clothes? seriously. It's really disappointing to see that these are our options*: sweatshop labour or not-so-subtle sexism that passes itself off as the only conscientious choice for the modern consumer.
*if you know of any clothing companies that are "better" (yeah yeah, I know, whatever), share please! thanks.
