It's important to say up-front that this wasn't given by me or, in fact, given for anyone I knew. My friend Simon H. knew Matt well and has received permission from the speaker (Ian) to have a copy of this put up online. I certainly think it bares repeating.

Who was it given for?

Matt was married to my childhood friend Tom (irrespective of whatever the legal definition of marriage is at any given moment, they were married in truth). I met him in Cambridge in the mid 90s. He recently died after three and a half decades of living a full and rich life despite his liver transplant and Cystic Fibrosis. He was a wonderful storyteller and more importantly made Tom happy.
