Does anyone find it odd that we have a terror-alert system that tells the terrorists of the world when we're on our guard and when we're not?

We should be on guard 24-7

If we were, our national debt would skyrocket even faster than it already does. Believe it or not, orange alert is expensive.

Of course, "on guard" is a relative term. We could just ditch the colors and remain at the alert we're already at.

that's why the US has implemented a self-policing system.. however, it doesn't work -all- the time I guess

The terror-alert system has never been below a '3' (on a scale from 1 -5) and never been above a '4' 2 is 'guarded' or everything is normal, 1 is 'low risk' or we don't give a fuck about terrorism. So we're telling the terrorists that we're guarded while at the same time telling the american people that we should still be afraid of arabs. Apparently when it reaches level '5' they can take away our right to speak and assemble.

Bah. The color scheme is just there to scare
people. Like Michael Jackson!
Hey... Mister Chomps! How come you never added me
back? I added you to my LJ nearly 3 or 4 weeks
ago.
I'd be very pleased if you did :p

And yeah, it's mostly a scare tactic for us, not them, but there is a physical difference in the amount of security at airports, etc, when we raise the alert. So, when we go back to yellow (or lower, not that we ever will) we're basically telling any potential terrorists "Okay! They're gone now! Here's your chance!"

This probably falls into the same category as the fact that we allow lighters on airplanes. They let it happen for one of two reasons... (a) they don't care about our security, or (b) there is no real threat.
