as your resident LJ-American, I wholly apologize for Bush's election in the past. If it is any consolation, I don't own a car, avoid buying plastic whenever I can, and don't keep the heat on very much. So, I hope that is helping a little.

i had no idea eucalyptus trees exploded and spread fire that way! that is LUDICROUS!!! What is a person supposed to do if they're caught in the middle of one? Do you go in some crazy underground shelter? Or is it just totally over? Now I am really curious.

and why aren't the koalas made firefighters if they really are so fierce?

:P

I obviously wasn't being serious. But invading Texas would be fun.

If you are caught in the open, or in a car, you are pretty much stuffed. Seems to be how most have died. They tell people to leave early, or to stay and fight. But a lot seem to have realised they are going to die if they stay, and they have panicked and been caught in the open.

No shelters. You'd just block the sinks and let the taps run and hope for the best. Some of the survivors seem to have waited lying on wet towels, tiles and concrete. But it's pretty much luck. The radiant heat would have just cooked a lot of people. People usually survive doing this, but this set of fires has just been so much worse than usual, it isn't funny.

Koalas would make awesome fire fighters. :P A lot of animals die though unfortunately. Koalas more horribly than a lot of others I fear. They would just smoulder. :(
