Finn was a wreck when he arrived at the hospital; his mom had to drive because he could barely concentrate on anything but making sure Sam was okay. He kept thinking about the last time he saw him, the way he looked at him, how mean he was being. If Sam wasn’t okay, Finn would never forgive himself. He thought he should have been there at school, he shouldn’t have overreacted and stayed with Sam, and then none of this would’ve happened. Sam would be okay and they’d be together instead of being at the hospital.

“Hi, we’re looking for Sam Evans?” Mrs, Hudson asked the receptionist, taking control after Finn began to look at the signs because he knew Sam would most likely be in the intensive care unit. He was rushing; he needed to see him okay so he could breathe.

“Please! Hurry up!” Finn slammed his hands down on the receptionist’s desk, becoming more and more desperate, shocking the poor girl for a second as she scanned through files.

“He’s in surgery.” She spoke with a timid voice. “Are you family?”

Finn didn’t waste a second, gazing at the signs and running in the first direction he saw. As soon as he saw the blonde heads of his family, Finn knew he was in the right place, although every one of their faces didn’t look happy. Their faces said everything but happy, they seemed angry almost. Finn’s face dropped, he suddenly lost all hope that Sam was okay.

“Is he okay?!” Finn shouted, watching Sam’s father’s head turn to him in shock. “Is he okay?!”

“What are you doing here?!” Sam’s father stood. “You need to leave.”

“No, I’m not leaving until I see him.” Finn shrugged off his mom’s request that they should leave.

“No, you’re not seeing him. Not after what you did. This is your fault!”

Then Finn saw a picture in Sam’s father’s hand, a picture of them kissing. He quickly put two and two together and figured that it was the picture posted around school that outed them. It also explained why Sam’s dad looked so angry. Still, Finn had no intention of leaving until he saw Sam and saw that he was okay and even then, he could never leave him alone in this place - not until they could both walk out of here together.

“Leave now, before I get you taken you, you disgusting piece of filth.” Sam’s father ordered, glaring at his wife as she began to rise - she quickly sat back down. “Get out, and stay away from my son.”

“Do you realize what you just said?” Finn continued to walk towards him, hoping there was a glass window where he could see Sam. There was a window but he could barely see through it without getting closer, tempted to barge past Sam’s father just to get that once glimpse of him. That one look would help everything Finn was feeling, the guilt, the dread, and it would make it all go away once he saw Sam alive and well.

“Sam is not what you are!” The man laughed. “My son is not gay.”

Finn began to laugh from a mixture of hysteria and worry that was taking over him and he just didn’t care about anything but Sam right there and then. Sam’s parents were so clueless, and Finn realized how blunt he was going to have to be for them to see that there was nothing wrong with either of them but he was afraid of what he might say in his current state.

“Yes he is! And there’s nothing wrong with that. Sam is perfect, he is smart, he nice, he is everything you would want for a son.” Finn’s voice came down, speaking directly to Sam’s father. “There is nothing wrong with him, so stop denying it.”

“How dare you walk in here, not welcome, and tell me what my son is! How dare you say that?! My son is not gay, and you’re everything that’s wrong with the world!” Sam’s father pushed Finn slightly. “Now leave, and don’t you ever come near my family again you disgusting faggot.”

Finn went to hit the man in front of him, but his hand was pulled back by a security guard, his body pulled back by another. He struggled a little as his body was dragged away from the surgery section of the hospital, but he settled once they reached the reception when he broke free and agreed to calm down if they let him stay in the reception.

His mother directed him to a seat where his body just crumbled into the plastic with a whimper, resting his head against his hands and forcing himself not to cry. Sam’s father had something right, this was all Finn’s fault, and he knew it. He would do anything to trade places with Sam, that Sam would be okay and his family would accept him.

“Finn?” Quinn’s voice sounded. “Finn, how is he?”

The boy looked up to see the girl standing in front of him and he almost broke down upon seeing the equally sad face. Finn stood, pulling her into a hug partially for his own benefit because he needed someone to understand. He barely noticed his mother leave to talk to the receptionist, pleading Finn’s case.

“I don’t know, they won’t let me anywhere near him.” Finn continued to hold onto Quinn, feeling her hands on his back. After everything that happened between them, Finn was happy she would still be there for him.

“Not everyone could come, but they all wanted to be here.” Quinn announced as they broke their hug, and giving Finn a supportive smile as they sat down. “Santana and Puck are dealing with the picture situation, trying to find out who did this. And the rest are helping Rachel collect the rest of the pictures. Finn, I’m so sorry.”

Finn suddenly turned his head as he heard disgusted remarks coming from the direction he had just been dragged from, Sam’s entire family rushing to leave. The last thing he heard was ‘he’s no son of mine.’ Finn stood, followed by Quinn, and began to run down the hall again - this time having no restrictions from the family. He reached where they were once seated and then he saw him.

Sam was led on a bed, machines all around him, but he was awake and Finn let out a sigh of relief. There were no nurses around so he didn’t hesitate to walk in, where he first noticed all the cuts on Sam’s face - a huge gash on his forehead. His arms were scratched a little, wires hooked up to his arms. He couldn’t bear to see him like this.

“Sammy?” Finn spoke in a whisper, the tears welling in his eyes as the blonde turned his gaze to the door. Then Finn saw how truly damaged the boy was, refusing to think of the unseen injuries.

“Finn.” Sam attempted a smile, wincing at the pain slightly but continuing. “Finn, I’m so sorry.”

“No, no.” Finn sat on the chair next to him, failing at his own attempt to smile. “Don’t you even dare apologize, you’ve done nothing wrong.” He wanted to take his hand, but he refrained once he saw the bandage. “I shouldn’t have left you, none of this would’ve happened.”

“Finn, my parents know.” Sam said, looking away for a second as to hide his own tears. “He said he hated me, that I wasn’t his son.”

“I am so sorry.” Finn couldn’t handle this; he couldn’t look at Sam in pain and not be able to do anything. “They don’t hate you, Sam. They’re just going to take a little while to come around, I know it.” He decided he had to be the strong one now; he couldn’t break down in front of Sam because that would only make things worse. “Listen to me. Everything is going to be fine; once you’re better you can live at my house until your parents come around. I will take care of you, we all will; me, my mom, the glee club. Sammy, please don’t cry.” Finn stood, placing a hand one the injury free part of his arm. “Everything’s going to be fine.”

“It’s not just parents, it’s everyone at school. Everyone knows now, Finn. Everyone.”

“Screw everyone at school, okay? There are enough of us to protect you; we would do anything to keep you safe because we love you.” Finn honestly didn’t care about himself at this point; everything was about calming Sam down. “I love you.”

“But...” Sam started, interjected by Finn’s steady voice.

“No buts.” Finn smiled. “Just get some rest okay? I’m not leaving you this time; I’m not leaving this room until you can leave with me.”

Finn sat back down, looking outside the door for a second to get a glance of a concerned Quinn stood by his mother. As strong as he was trying to be, Finn knew it wasn’t long before he cracked - he just hoped the broken boy in front of him would be asleep when he did. He watched, looking as Sam’s eyes closed, waiting for him to sleep before Quinn walked in and held his hand.

“He’s going to be just fine, the nurses said he bruised a few ribs and the obvious cuts and things but he’s going to be perfectly fine. Especially since he has you.”

Finn smiled, the news made his ecstatic. Knowing his boy would be fine, perfectly fine, made everything better again - giving him the time to forgive himself for leaving Sam in the first place. “Thank you, Quinn, again.”

“I’ll be here as long as you need me to be, and I’m sure Santana will want to see him too - she was a wreck when I left.” Quinn explained. “I’ll go get us come coffee.” The blonde exited the room, and Finn’s mother entered and was welcome with a tight embrace from her son.

“He’s going to be fine, mom.” Finn cried onto her shoulder, happy tears replacing the distressed ones.

Finn looked back to Sam, his body not moving except a tiny rise and fall of his chest. He couldn’t wait to see those beautiful green eyes again, to see Sam smile without being in pain - he was going to be there for every moment of the boy’s recovery no matter what. After all, he would do anything for the one person he truly loves. He would sacrifice anything for him, even dedicate his entire days to help him get back to how he was a mere few hours ago - a happy teenager with his whole life ahead of him, a whole life to spend with Finn.
