[The comm is clicked on, though it was probably an accident, given that the voices transmitted don't seem to be that close to it for it to be intentional.]

Yeah, this kid ain't too bad either. He just likes to put everything he touches in his mouth.

No, don't eat that!

It sounds like you'll have to keep a close eye on him, Zeke. Still, children don't know any better. Maybe you could try to find him a toy he can safely put in his mouth?

[Despite Chrissie's panicking en Francais, Shilo's actually relatively calm. She's already picked the baby up from its bassinet and is cradling it in her arms. Even though everyone else seems to be doing so, she's not going to jump to any crazy conclusions - obviously, even though the baby looks like both her and Christine, it didn't, well, come from one of them.

But it's here, and it's adorable, and it's apparently theirs. So they need to take care of it.

Shilo smiles down at the child, murmuring something in gibberish baby-talk to it before looking up at Chrissie.]

This isn't really that bad, is it?

[Hey, it may be obvious to you, Miss 21st Century, but Miss 1871 over here is still going to suspect foul play. Christine has never heard of a baby being born anyway except... well... the traditional one. Unless--

Well, suffice it to say, Christine is going to be wondering just how mysteriously God moves for a while.

In the meantime, the child really is adorable, and it needs their love.]

No, it not so bad. Just... shocking. Still, we manage.

[She strokes the baby's beautiful black curls a little, and then turns her attention to the basket that turned up with her. Oh, good, they aren't completely without the means to look after the child, but there's not enough! Well, not unless the babies aren't staying for more than a day or so. At least there's a little food, and - thank goodness - clean cloths, although Christine's stomach turns at the thought of that particular duty.]

We should name it, shouldn't we? Because I don't want to keep on calling it and it. Like I just did like ... three times.

[She goes to sit on the edge of the bed, still holding the child close. God, it's adorable.]

Without checking, I'd guess she's a girl ... I mean, she doesn't look like a boy.

[...and then it occurs to her that she's mothering a child with someone she doesn't even know the name of...]

I'm Shilo, by the way.

[Chrissie giggles a little at that, but Shilo has a point.]

Yes, you right. I think she girl too. She so pretty!

[Hmm, a name, a name...]

...Marguerite, maybe? Meg as short.

[She doesn't often say so, but Christine really, really misses her best friend from the Populaire. And if she'll never see her again... maybe this can be a way of remembering her.

...Dear God, she's thinking that and she doesn't even know how long they'll have the child for. Oh well.]

Oh, and I Christine. It nice meet you.
