That was some nightmare.

[It takes a long moment before Javert responds to the call. First there was the matter that he had just gotten out of bed and needed to properly dress himself. That he accomplished with a distracted air about him, pulling his hair into its characteristic knot at the nape of his neck, buttoning each button of his coat all the way up to his chin. And yet the loose strands and the off-center cravat buckle indicated profound distraction.

It was only at this point that he offered Soul a clearly disoriented response. In fact, it hardly even seems that he's addressing Soul at all.]

So it seems. Is that how you see it?

Considering the alternative is that you actually died and everything, I'd rather think it was just a dream. Was it?

[Unexpectedly, Javert's lips pull back in a frightening, mirthless grin - one that displayed all of his teeth and gums. There was something melancholic about that grin.]

Entirely enough of a dream.

That's good, I guess. Still means you have a pretty twisted imagination, though.

Ah! [And this he murmurs more toward his collar than to Soul.] I needed little imagination for this outcome.

You don't seem too creeped out for someone who just dreamed about getting his throat slashed.

[Creeped out? Javert could guess at the meaning, but it certainly wasn't any slang he had heard before. He merely raised a single graying eyebrow at Soul, his frightening grim melting to more of a grimace.]

There was nothing unexpected about it. I was well prepared for these kinds of results in bad cases.

I know what you mean. Dangerous jobs are like that. It stops being a big deal after awhile.

It comes with proper duty, a part and parcel package. They are criminals. That is how these sorts of scamps behave.

[Now, he's not quite staring at Soul anymore, but rather, past him -- even through him, to some indistinguishable point in the distance. It sounds like somewhat of a brief monologue.]

Criminals acting as criminals do earns them a swift ticket back to the galleys. Justice catches up with them all before long.

[That look in his eyes is maaaaybe just a little concerning, but Soul's not going to say anything about it.]

So you don't care if you get offed as long as justice gets served in the long run?

[chose_death]

[Now he's muttering to his collar]

That was the plan.

...right. Anyway, you probably want to get some sleep tonight without being verbally mauled by questions, so I guess I'll let you go.
