Dream ✍ 002

Dec 16, 2009 15:03

((Warning: 19th-century crudeness, disrespect to elders?))

"He was a spy as others are priests. Woe to any who fell into his hands! He would have arrested his own father if he escaped from prison and turned in his own mother for breaking parole. And he would have done it with that sort of interior satisfaction that springs from virtue."

Javert was penning a report. )

[There's just silence on Dominic's end. Now, he can definitely see what Cornelia meant about the Inspector caring more about the law than the people.]

[Javert does not check his Dreamberry until after he has dressed himself half-decently for the workday, a taut, disconcerted crease in his brow. He picks up the line to see... a young man staring at him. The same young man that offered to take Alice 'if no one else could.' After a lengthy amount of time studying Dominic's face with a cold gaze, he calmly says,]

Bonjour, Monsieur Last Resort. The child has already found her caretaker. Have you anything else?

[Twitch. Dominic is used to people not thinking much of him, but it's still annoying, nevertheless.]

I have a name.

[He arches an eyebrow. It isn't exactly his intention to be nasty, and his tone is only lightly sacastic; it's the same as he treats everyone, after all. And after such a dream, he is not exactly in the best of moods, though he makes an admirable effort to banish any thoughts of it any longer.]

All right. As we all.

*It's obvious he's confused as to what went on in the dream...too many foreign (not to mention outdated) elements, and not enough context.*

S-so...who were they?

[Javert considers this newcomer, gazing at him intently as he ponders an appropriate response. After all, to him (as he told himself) the dream was complete nonsense, a mishmash of people and events that made little sense whatsoever.]

Repeat criminals.

[He fluidly moves into his own question]

Who are you?

Ryoji Mochizuki. It's nice to meet you, sir.

Monsieur L'Inspecteur...that's French, right? You're a policeman...an investigator?

Apparently.

[He recalls the name Ryoji Mochizuki from one of Adachi's recent reports. This boy was a new arrival. He murmurs to his collar,]

Ryoji Mochizuki. I recognize it. You have been here almost two weeks.

I'm glad I'm not your mother, Inspector.

And yet you are only somewhat less flagrant.

Since that is coming from you, I'll take it as a compliment.

"Monsieur l'Inspecteur"? You are French, then, I take it?

Yes. So it seems.

[His own brow furrows, and he takes a guess, judging by the accent.]

German Confederation?

[Well, that was true at one point, but... lol. Obviously there is no German Confederation in 1914.]

Austrian, to be specific.

[Hm. Still holding on to that nationalism, Austria? That sounded like misplaced pride. Still, he nods curtly, his suspicions confirmed. As far as Javert knew, the German Confederation began in 1815 as a result of Buonaparte's actions (for to Javert, who was somewhat of a royalist, Napoleon was an Emperor no longer).]

Near Vienna?
