Alt pic Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Zoey has an affinity for all five elements: Air, Fire, Water, Earth and Spirit; a gift from Zoey’s Goddess, Nyx, to her future High Priestess. She’s also the only fledgling or Vampyre to ever have that. When casting a circle and summoning these five elements, Zoey can feel them surrounding her or warming her, etc. She can also call upon each individual element, or several at once, when she has need of them to help someone or protect herself.
Meaning, she can use wind to blow someone away are trap them in a cyclone. She can use fire to burn someone, set something on fire, or create a flame in the palm of her hand but it won‘t burn her. Water she can summon when she needs something washed away, needs water or needs to drown something. Being the most basic of elements, Earth can be used by Zoey to make moss, create tunnels (like Stevie Rae has done) or to collapse them.
Air and spirit together can be used to soften a fall. Fire, spirit, water and air can be used together to hide herself. But all Vampyre’s and fledglings can use the night to hide themselves but anything that isn’t organic can’t be hidden.
At the start of the Changing process, just after a Tracker Marks a fledgling and secretes enough of the Preservation Pheromone to keep them from dying then, a fledgling must get to a House of Night immediately or their body will reject the Change and they will die. Once they arrive at the House of Night and are surrounded by adult Vampyre's and the Shield Pheromone they secrete, a fledgling's odds of rejecting the Change decrease.
This is not, however, guaranteed. A fledgling may at any time show signs of rejecting the Change even when with adult Vamps. It may start as a cough throughout the day or it will come on without any warnings. The result, however, is the same. A fledgling coughs and then begins to bleed internally, choking on their own blood as their organs liquefy.
To try to prevent this, fledglings are encouraged to eat healthy and exercise as it is often the less active fledglings that reject the Change. Once a fledglings body starts to reject the Change, there is no stopping it.
Vampyre’s, and fledglings, are unable to become drunk from the consumption of alcohol. However, should a human drink alcohol and becomes drunk, and a Vampyre or fledgling drink from them, they will become intoxicated.
During the Change, fledglings will recover from injury quickly. Once they complete the Change, their injuries will heal more quickly than a fledglings does.
Once the Change is complete, a Vampyre will always know what time it is. No exceptions.
I’ll add that, if an adult Vampyre asks a fledgling a direct question, it is impossible to lie to them.
Once at the House of Night, fledglings are expected to behave better than they did as humans. While they are still young and given a bit of leniency, plain stupid acts that reflect badly on the House of Night will result in expulsion from the school which will result in the death of the fledgling. Some may try to be sneaky about their acts but Vamps seem to have a sixth sense, almost as if they have eyes in the back of their heads.
As mentioned before, adult Vampyre's secrete a Shield Pheromone but it doesn't require a constant presence for the next four years years of a fledgling's stay at the House of Night. A fledgling is able to, for several hours to a day (it's not the same for every fledgling), leave the House of Night to go out and go shopping. There are rules however that a fledgling must obey:
1. No part of the school uniform may be worn outside the House of Night.
2. Your Mark must be covered.
When leaving the school, often during the day since classes are held from 8pm to 3am, fledglings will notice that the sunlight becomes uncomfortable but not unbearably slow. It is human myth that a vampyre will burst into flames the moment sunlight touches their skin.
During the Change, fledglings will notice and increase in their strength and stamina (especially in male fledglings) will increase. Teeth, while not becoming fangs (more human myth) will become straighter and strong. Hair will lengthen and thicken, many Vampyre's and vampyre fledglings have abnormally long hair and this includes males. A fledglings skin will gradually become smooth and clear.
Fledglings will experience an increase in body temperature, making them much more tolerant to changes in the climate but there is a drawback in that it will cause male fledglings to become sterile and female fledglings will cease to menstruate. No Vampyre is capable of having children.
Fledglings will notice a change in their saliva as their body Changes. Their salivary glands are developing coagulants and anticoagulants. This is convenient later in life, as a Vampyre can easily seal a wound or a cut on the person they are drinking from. Vampyre saliva will also begin to secrete endorphins that stimulate the pleasure zones of the brain. This will be covered later on.
As fledglings continue with the Change, they will evolve psychologically. Most will notice that have an increased ability to focus on academic pursuits and can remember things they learned with much more clarity. This is more of a survival trait, seeing as the world is filled with humans that vastly outnumber Vampyre’s.
Vampyre's have a strict contract with humans not to forcefully drink from them. This is in the best interest of both races as Vampyre's, even fledglings, are capable of creating an Imprint with them. Due to the long lifespan of a Vampyre, it can be emotionally difficult for the imprinted human and Vampyre to watch the human age and die.
Imprinting is not solely between Vampyre's and humans. While fledglings cannot imprint with fledglings, it is entirely possible for an adult Vampyre to imprint with a fledgling. This is deeply frowned upon in their society due to the rate of Change rejection in fledglings.
And finally, the act of drinking blood. Due to the nature of Vampyre's, they require blood to survive. To help with this, Nyx bestowed a gift onto all of her children and humans: the act of drinking, from human, Vampyre or fledgling, would be pleasurable rather than painful. With age, Vampyre's will secrete more endorphins into their saliva which will make the act of blood drinking even more pleasurable. It has been speculated by Vampyre's for centuries that this is one of the reasons that humans have made Vampyre's into villains.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History:
Before the books- Zoey was born Zoey Montgomery sixteen years before the start of Marked. Her father, Philip Montgomery who left her mom Linda, was a deadbeat and rarely sent child-support. When he did, it was minuscule. Linda dated several men as the years went on and eventually married John Heffer, an Elder of the People of Faith. Zoey ended up being ostracized from her family because she wasn’t a ‘good child’ and wouldn’t conform to the new set of beliefs that John thought their ‘perfect’ family should have. Zoey was extremely thankful for the weekends spent at her Grandma Redbird’s lavender farm. Grandma Redbird, who John once told Linda was “a witch and going to hell”, is one of the few people that Zoey can relate to. She often taught Zoey of her Cherokee ancestors and loving Zoey for who she is.
Marked Betrayed
Chosen Untamed Hunted Tempted Burned Point in Canon: The end of Burned (seventh book), Zoey has pulled the shattered pieces of her soul back together thanks to Stark and thanks to Heath’s sacrifice to move on to the next life. And she’s staying in Skye, the island belonging to Queen Sgiach, an ancient and powerful Vampyre(who we know as Scathach in modern mythology). There, she’s safe from Kalona and Neferet, and she can start to heal properly because nobody that spends time in Otherworld comes back the same.
Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: N/A
Character Personality:
Zoey is very mild-mannered, most of the time. She never swears unless she really needs to, or if she's really upset or frustrated and usually it's only words like "damn" or "hell", much to Aphrodite's displeasure. Although, since her soul shattered, Zoey's changed quite a bit. Swearing isn't entirely out of the question anymore but still, only when appropriate. Like when she's talking about the "step-loser" who her mom married three long years ago.
She loves her friends with all her heart, and never gives up on them. Even when Stevie Rae died and then un-died, Zoey kept looking for a way to save her from the stereotypical vampire thing that she had become. The same goes for Stark, who died right after meeting Zoey, and un-died later so Neferet could bring Kalona back. When Heath died, Zoey's soul literally shattered, showing just how strongly she can love. She even loves, not by her will, Kalona because she is the reincarnated Cherokee maiden, Aya.
She adores her grandmother, Grandma Redbird, and the lavender farm she owns. She's very interested in her Cherokee heritage and even tries to incorporate those ways with her rituals in Nyx's honor. She trusts easily, and once she distrusts someone, it's hard to gain that trust back. As shown when Neferet starts to let her true colors show through her veil, showing just how far away from Nyx that Neferet has fallen. Even so far as to ally with the White Bull: Darkness.
Zoey is free-spirited and hates being pushed around, preferring to go by the beat of her own drum. Which is where a lot of her problems with John Heffer, the "Step-loser", comes from. He's an Elder of the People of Faith, and he believes that Zoey needs to repent and see the error of her ways, beg God's forgiveness because she's a "problem child". Which Zoey's knows is crap. "You think I'm the bad one because I don't pretend -- because I'm honest." He only wanted the facade of a perfect family and Zoey wasn't going to act like someone she's not just to please some guy who changed even how her mom acts around her own children.
Her love life is messy, and that's an understatement. In the first book she has a relationship with Heath Luck and Erik Night, and forms an Imprint with Heath. In the second, she starts to hit things off with Loren Blake while still seeing Heath and Erik. In the third, she sleeps with Loren and Imprints with him, breaks Heath's heart (and their Imprint) and gets caught doing the dirty by Erik who calls her a whore. Then Loren dies, breaking the Imprint he formed with Zoey which makes her feel how he died. Now she has no boyfriends, and this goes on for awhile. Eventually, she's dating Heath, Erik and Stark, while Kalona is trying to get her to love him but then Erik gets insanely jealous so she broke up with him. Then Heath dies and she's left with Stark, who makes her incredibly happy anyway. So, at one point, her love life becomes much less messy. Thank Nyx.
Otherwise, Zoey is a very strong young woman. She's overcome a lot since she was Marked. A lot more than any Vampyre ever should have to, let alone a fledgling. She found out that the Red Fledglings had lost their humanity and in order to complete their Change, they have to choose between Light or Darkness. She's survived evil Vampyre ghost attacks, Raven Mocker's trying to kill her or kidnap her, and she's the first Vampyre to ever survive having their soul shattered and returning from Otherworld thanks to her friends and Stark.
As a fun little addition, Vampyre's and fledgling Vampyre's cannot get drunk by drinking alcohol. So they can drink wine to their hearts content. However, if a human gets drunk and then a Vampyre or fledgling drinks from that human... well, that's a whole other (and very entertaining) story.
Conditional: Personality development in previous game: N/A
Character Plans: First and foremost, Zoey will start out by freaking: her friends aren’t here and she’s worried about them.; Stark isn’t there and he’s pledged a Warrior’s Oath to her; most importantly, there are no Vamps there, which means her body may start to reject the Change. This could come on suddenly, no warnings, so she’ll be crying all over herself. And she’s got to keep Kalona and Neferet from duping the High Council.
Appearance/PB: See icons, and image in profile
Description-wise: when she’s not covering them, Zoey has a sapphire blue crescent moon, filled, tattooed on her forehead. This expands out into swirled, lacy tattoos on her face, neck and upper shoulders after she saves Heath on Samhain when Aphrodite screws up the Dark Daughters ritual and summons evil Vampyre ghosts. Each time she does something that coincides with Nyx’s path for her, her tattoos are added too until they cover her face, neck, shoulders, upper back, lower back, around her waist and stomach, down her arms and onto the palms of her hands.
She also has a wound across her chest (caused by a Raven Mocker), shoulder to shoulder that’s still an angry red. Some of her Marks are along this raised red line.
Her PB will be Najarra Townsend, she looks most alike the image provided on the House of Night website.

First Person Sample
[There’s a sobbing teenage girl looking sick being pulled along to the dugouts by a couple SERO security folks.
Bright sapphire blue tattoos are covering most of her upper body. One of the men are holding onto her purse while a kitten-sized and pudgy orange cat follows along with a grumpy ‘mee-uf-ow’ at the men working for SERO.
It takes a little while for Zoey’s mind to register that she’s now being asked questions like “Name?” and “Where were you prior to arriving here?”
To comfort her human, Nala hops up into Zoey’s arms and let’s the teenager scratch behind her ears.]
Um… Zoey Redbird. I was… I was on the Island of Skye but I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
[After a half hour, part of it more questions and the other part a physical that Zoey really didn’t appreciate, she’s being ushered towards the apartments. Fumbling with her NV and trying not to drop her purse, or cat because Nala would really not appreciate that, she manages her turn on the video. Her face is a bit pale yet, making her Marks stand out much more than they might usually but she looks calm.]
I can’t stay in these apartments. But, they told me about the Darkness and that really bites because the sun hurts my eyes and makes my skin all tingly. So, while I’m awake and already uncomfortable in the sun, can somebody give me a hand finding a House of Night? And maybe loan me some sunglasses?
There’s gotta be one here, they’re all over the world. And I mean… If that Core thing brought me here, there’s gotta be a House of Night to keep me alive.
[Zoey pauses, finding a shady spot to sit and sets Nala down, then sets her NV and digs through her purse to dig out a glass jar of special concealer. For the moment, the NV is completely forgotten while she covers all the Marks on her arms and face before getting her shoulders and hands. With that done, and Zoey looking human, she picks up her NV once more and smiles a bit.]
I forgot to introduce myself, I’m Zoey Redbird. High Priestess of Nyx.

Zoey sat outside in a tank top and jeans, without a care in the world, looking out at the water. The sirens would go off soon, which would mean she'd have to head inside or risk getting torn to bits by the monsters. She was more than aware that it was early spring here and she knew it was chilly but since getting Marked and meeting Nyx, it just hasn’t bothered her. Not much. Nearby she had a comfy warm black hoody, her favorite one, with the Borg Invasion 4D emblazoned on it. Sure, it was nerdy but what better for the ringleader of the ‘Nerd Herd’ as Aphrodite so often put it. Zo loved that hoody, so she finally sighed and pulled it on.
Before coughing. And coughing again. Panic rose up in her chest and she reached for her NV, clutching it tightly and hoping, praying to Nyx, that she just got something caught in her throat. It happened, often, when she swallowed her brown pop wrong or ate Count Chocula to fast or didn’t finish chewing a Dorito! She can’t be dying!
“Grandma! I don’t wanna die! Not here, not ever! I wanna go home, I wanna go to your house again and pick Lavender.” Already, she could hear her grandmothers words, gentle and comforting but wise and honest: ‘Fret not u-we-tsi-a-ge-ya, Nyx would not do this to you unless it was necessary. She has grand things planned for you, it’s why she Marked you as her own.’
The thought of Nyx made tears stream down Zoey’s face. Was Nyx angry with her for getting trapped in Siren’s Port? Or was this part of her plan? Zoey had heard that people don’t die forever here. Fledglings didn’t die forever in Tulsa, but this was different. Was that why she had to die? To see what would happen here? Would she become a Red Vampyre or would she come back as herself?
Even as she coughed again, blood coming up with it, Zoey still wondered, morbidly, if Nyx’s will really was for her to die here today. Zoey quickly called the five elements to comfort her and give her the feeling that her friends were there with her.
