Hello. I am victim number 23,168,432 of the DMCA act. I am being accused of distributing an episode of The Sopranos over the BitTorrent protocol. I received an e-mail from the head of IT here at tech, notifying me that my Resnet internet connection was being disconnected due to a DMCA violation. Jesus, that's a raw deal. Be glad that Tech is the one you have to deal with first; if it was the RIAA or a similar group you'd be fighting an uphill battle.
I believe you about the Sopranos thing; can't believe anyone still watches it (what is it now, 3 seaons in 6 years?). You were probably just using BitTorrent to download some other non-copyrighted file and soemone else on Tech's system was downloading the file with the same program. Signals got crossed and you're the one they tagged instead of the real downloader.
Hopefully they'll drop the charge once they find out you never touched the file.
